CHOPPA’S MINI MART PRESENTS: Surge

Our eleventh label release comes from Para, providing a heavy, steppy, jump-up infused three-track madness. This EP is your friend who turns up to the party drunk, pours shot after shot down your throat, and then passes out in the middle of the living room; but doesn’t give a f***. Aggressive and in your face, yet playful all at the same time, Para hits you for six with his signature bass sound in ‘For You’. The stuttered bass hits are accentuated with a guttural drone that is guaranteed to mash up the dance. ‘Knock’ harks back to Para’s jump up roots, a sub-driven unique jump-up riddim sampling The Rocky Horror Show that is sure to crumble any system. The final tune is a collaboration with Willow, another up-and-coming producer making waves in the scene. A further horror film sample is used here, this time from the Blair Witch Project, and the minimal build is followed by warped synths that match the terrifying feel of the track.

Para himself is making waves at the moment, with his most recent release on Helix, the Hypnos EP, causing a stir on Juno. Signed to the label, he makes sure to let us know that he has a lot of respect for them and everything they’ve done for him as an artist. As a producer he gained attention in the scene in 2019 with his bootleg of Mae Muller’s ‘Leave It Out’, as well as a previous release with his Helix family. Unfortunately, the global pandemic has meant Para hasn’t had much experience playing sets, but Breeze is looking to change that in the not-so-distant future. This young Bristol-based producer is just getting started on his journey in the scene with his heavy jump-up and minimal vibe, and we’re gassed to have him on board for a release with us; as well as some future music down the line.
