I made it in Oregon this April on Bicycle Day when I was locked in a studio overnight, alone with a piano, some microphones, my laptop, and some monitors I can't afford. Had a lot of fun reaching inside that instrument and playing with the strings. Made a lot of the percussion by tapping on the wooden casing, too.

Silk Drop is a collaborative project, spearheaded by beat wizard Isaac Cotec, aka Subaqueous. The music fuses delectable beats with vulnerable female vocals and live strings. The result is a genre-bending lush soundscape. It blends the pop aesthetic with EDM, Trap, and R&B.

Dream Dream

I was honored to perform at Ecstatic Dance San Francisco on Sunday morning, December 17, 2017. These sets are a great opportunity for me to weave a journey all the way from downtempo, up to a crescendo of high energy beats, and then back down again. At the beginning, everyone stretches and warms up - in the middle, we get into the groove and cathartically unleash all our emotions and pent up energy - at the end, we all lay down on the floor and breathe, soaking in what we just experienced.

The dance was held at the Sacred Heart Church in San Francisco (currently known as the Church of 8 Wheels). The building is cavernous and beautiful, over a century old, and I documented this rare opportunity to hear some of the sounds closest to my heart reverberating through a sacred place with such rich acoustics!

Because of the Ecstatic Dance format (barefoot, sober, and focusing on the dance, with no talking on the dancefloor), there is very little crowd noise, even with over 100 people dancing that morning. This allows the sound of the music reverberating through the church to come through clearly in the recording!

The recording was cut short as I was transitioning into the song "Trails" and I didn't notice for another ten or fifteen minutes, so there is a chunk of the set missing... and it was a rather funky chunk at that! So for that fumble, I apologize. A piece of this set will just have to remain obscured by the passing of time. I got the recording going again toward the end of "Connectorbit" and stitched the two segments together after the fact, in order to restore a sense of seamlessness.
