Sharif Idu - Impassioned Troubadour of the Heart

Sharif Idu is a Sufi Dhadhi artist who excels at bringing to life four hundred year old compositions recounting the tragic love stories of Punjab.  Sharif infuses such depth of emotion into his songs that even without understanding the words the listener can emotionally relate to his folk tales about the heart-rending extremes of love!

Cover of the Unthanks' song "Magpie", which in turn is borrowed from an old English folk tune. According to English superstition, magpies are birds of omen and prophecy.

Fun fact: I recorded this while waiting inside my car, so please excuse the poor audio quality.

I recently translated my song Hirka's Bønn to English, and because it's Siri Pettersen's Birthday today (she's the wonderful author of the books about Hirka), I recorded it straight away (in spite of having a really bad cold) to give this to her as a birthday present!

Well, I'm still working out the musical arrangement for accompaniment, so here is just the a cappella version for now.

Improvised Songs 12-22-2015

This is a very short little song inspired by BioWare's game Dragon Age Trespasser. I've composed the music and then used the (very limited) Elven dictionary based on words and phrases used in their Dragon Age games to write the lyrics.

I also decided to try some new things when recording it to give it a different sound from what I usually do. I hope you enjoy it! ♥

The New Haven Theater Company hosts a Worst Song Ever Contest. For being the winner of Best In Show last year (2015), I got to sing an original improvised song based on suggestions from the audience. "What is the worst thing fucking ever?" I asked them. And off we went!
