For the first edition of the Escape the Chaos show, DJ Narkus invites Sarjan Paul to go b2b.

Sarjan is one of those DJ’s who consistently flex’s his ability to pull tunes from all corners of the dance music spectrum. His mixes flow through various soundscapes and genres, never conforming himself to one style. His recent mix for the Cycles best displays this talent, as he journeys through atmospheric IDM and Dancehall, shifting to weighty DnB and punchy Hardcore bangers.

The South London based DJ often takes a stripped-back approach to her mixes, comprising of moody textures and wonky basslines. Currently, her efforts are focused on co-curating a Corsica based club night called Platforms.

Platforms is principled on championing rising talent in the London music scene, alongside some of the best DJs London has to offer. Putting the unexplored and misrepresented into the spotlight, Platforms’ identity is strongly situated in creating a positive community feeling. So far the Corsica based club night has collaborated with the likes of Vandelay, All Centre and more.

Escape the Chaos #3 DJ Narkus b2b Fiesta Soundsystem (Plaistow Flex Out) - 01-Mar-22

The 4th episode in the series features London based DJ, Gribs.

Gribs first caught our eye back in early Feb, where she played at a party thrown by Eel Disc. On the night she delivered a captivating set, quickly and effortless moving through different textures, sounds and tempos. It’s this unique style and sound, where Gribs shines as a DJ. Her ability to mix a sporadic range of different rhythms and sounds in a coherent manner leaves every mix a satisfying yet engrossing experience.

Escape The Chaos #4 Gribs & DJ Narkus - 29-Mar-22

The 5th edition of the Escape the Chaos show features a full takeover by  Sasha Stoned.

From only stepping behind the decks a few months ago, Sasha has quickly developed an exciting-energetic sound, unique to her own infatuation with the dancefloor. Playing her first event back in May organised by the London based DJ school 'Mix Nights,' she has swiftly acquired a keen taste for riling up the dancefloor.

As a close friend and a long time supporter of my own musical endeavours, I'm really proud and excited to have had her taking over the 5th edition of the show. For the takeover, Sasha has provided an aggressive and rowdy mix, serving as a fantastic radio debut.

Escape The Chaos #5 Sasha Stoned Takeover - 24-May-22

For Escape the Chaos #6 we had Luma joining us in the studio

As a DJ and radio host Luma is quickly establishing herself across the London music scene. Her style incorporates fast, rhythmic percussions and weighty bass, hopping around different tempos and moods. She has played at events such as Keep Hush and has been throwing parties with the event series, Don't Hide which showcases these vibrant sounds. However, Luma's relationship with music also incorporates a more personal and interactive approach in her show and new event series Habibti Nation.

Habibti Nation is Luma's show on Balami radio; the show champions music and artists from the SWANA region. Specifically, LUMA takes an intersectional approach by prioritising women, trans and non-binary artists from the region. By doing so, Luma puts the underrepresented and misrepresented at the forefront of this show. Habibti Nation celebrates music mischaracterised by orientalist depictions and artists often excluded from the dominant music narrative. In the show, Luma takes her time to provide a broad context behind each artist and song selected. Often detailing her own personal relationship with the chosen music. Since its inception, Habibti Nation has grown, now starting as an event series showcasing artists falling under this umbrella. The first event took place on the 9th of July at Aaja's new venue.

For this month's Escape the Chaos show, she joined us in the second hour, where we sat down and discussed her show in depth. Detailing the work that goes into it and its underpinning ideology. For the first hour, DJ Narkus was in the studio solo, playing a range of different tunes.

After a hiatus for a few months, the show is back. For the 7th show, @dj_narkus_ has prepared a mix centred on a fictitious idea of the natural world—a compilation of otherworldly exotica. Inspired by the works of composer Jon Hassell, the idea of the mix was to comprise different musical interpretations of nature, which in turn produce fabricated realities of an enchanted, natural world.

Joining for the 9th edition of the show was Manchester-based producer Kop-Z.

Kop-Z’s music is full of intricate, meticulously programmed drums layered over a wealth of grandiose, textural sounds.

While it would be reductive to pigeonhole him as a Drum and Bass producer, his ability to tear down and remodel traditional ideas of the genre is what first caught my eye with his music. Particularly with his releases on Pinecone Moonshine.

The 12th show featured London-based DJ and Hard.Drive co-head Nymphetamine.

As one of the co-heads of Hard.Drive Vicki aka Nymphetamine is responsible for curating an event series that’s both forward-thinking and refreshing. After throwing a very successful third event last month, featuring a synthesis of tantalising live performances, installations and DJ sets—it’s an exciting prospect of where they’ll push the event next.

On top of their talents for curation, Vicki is also more than adept behind the decks. For the show, they’ve put together an hour mix full of moody motifs—a variety of atmospheric drones, heavy bass lines and intricate breaks. Lock into the second hour to hear their mix.

For the first hour, to compliment the soaring temperatures, DJ Narkus put together a sweltering mix of Dub, Breakcore and IDM.

Back in December, I had footwork aficionado DJ Strawberry guest on the show. DJ Strawberry's approach to the genre, holds a refreshing aura within the wave of 160 and ghetto tech producers, who tend to miss the mark in the realm of footwork.
DJ Strawberry's attentive and natural approach to building intricate drum patterns, with an added flavour of hypnotic sound design, provides a new and exciting voice in the genre.
