Wasted moments. We had a lot of them. Even though I believe I’ve done the right thing at the time, when I look back I realize I actually made my life a lot more difficult. Not an uncommon tale. I rarely learn anything from the mistakes, in fact if I went back I’d probably do the same stuff all over again.

But I am trying. I’m trying to be better, and more honest. I was thinking about those wasted moments one night while I was working on my next record. I started writing this song, finished it in front of my drum kit the next day. I already had all my songs for the new record, this felt like something different, born out of the same ideas but for different reasons. 

I recorded it with tempo because life to me is tempo, it’s rarely slow. This song is the connect from where I was, to where I’m going to be very soon.

'Nowhere' is an ambitious sonic leap from anything alex FM has released thus far. Having grown up within the EDM circuit, his productions have almost exclusively relied on the 'four to the floor' format up to this point in his career. Through the years, his Electro-house dance floor bangers have taken on a sleek cinematic quality perfectly primed for a sync in a future dystopian flick or adrenaline fueled heist scene. But something is different here, and more than just the obvious fact that he has freed himself from the shackles of the 4/4 kick drum gridlock. There is a yearning here, a feeling that leaves us reaching for more. An emotionally rich progression of events takes us on an epic voyage, yet there is no loss of sonic clarity. In fact, the amount of space he utilizes in this track allows each gesture to penetrate through the haze of monotony that plagues the EDM world.

This Glimpse Of You

The two members of In Light Of, Jason Greenberg and Sandy Johnston, have never written a song together. That is together in the same room, or even the same city. All five songs on their debut EP, Little Treasures, were pieced together from ideas shared from one device to another, many kilometres away.

Jason and Sandy grew up in different cities without any mutual connections. They were first brought together in 2013 when, thanks to an online job posting, Jason hired Sandy to join his music licensing company. Starting as colleagues they quickly bonded over a shared appetite for the kind of boundless sonic exploration found in post-rock (and the like) songwriting. But it wasn’t until Sandy moved five hours away that a musical project was first discussed.

The project began with the lead single, Bless Your Heart. Sandy, known as the idea starter or “vibe setter”, sent Jason an idea for a song that was recorded entirely on his iPhone. Jason, known as the idea finisher or “vibe wrangler”, developed and finished the track in his studio, keeping many of the original low-fi recordings in the final mix. Thus began a formula for songwriting that works perfectly for both writers.
