The official soundtrack to Derek Jarman's 1984 short film "Imagining October", with music recorded by Derek’s friend and collaborator Genesis P-Orridge (Psychic TV, Throbbing Gristle), and Dave Ball (Soft Cell, The Grid). Recorded at DJM recording studios in Theobalds Road, London.

Limited Edition 12" vinyl featuring a beautiful etched B-Side. Features liner notes by James Mackay (Jarman's producer, collaborator and archivist).

Derek Jarman put together a programme of films for the London Film Festival, reﬂecting the cutting edge of the London avant-garde of the time. Recorded at the same time as The Angelic Conversation, Imagining October was filmed in the Eisenstein Museum in Moscow, Vladimir Mayakovsky’s grave at Novodevichy Cemetery, the GUM department store facing red square, and the fire temples of Baku in Azerbaijan. The painting sequences with a group of soldiers (Angus Cook, Stephen Thrower, Peter Doig and Keir Wahid) was filmed in London. Jarman considered it one of the best, if not the best, of his shorter works. It was intended as an agit-prop work and the combination of music and imagery remains powerful to this day.

It was not just the Soviet Union censoring books, Jarman points out here, but Thatcher’s government and its homophobia was no greater friend to gays than the regime on the other side of the Iron Curtain. A moral hysteria surrounding AIDs was sweeping Britain, the miner’s strike was in full swing (an action supported by gay activists, as it was brutally broken up by police): back home, society seemed on a knife edge." Quis est homo

A strange incident took place in the 1990s in late autumn in the taiga. Not far from the epicenter of the Tunguska meteorite impact site. A group of students went hiking to to see this legendary site. They lost their way after they decided to spend the night in one of the winter huts built by hunters of the land. Their mutilated bodies were later found near an old abandoned geological base with radiation burns. Ugasanie explores this incident together with photographer Alexsandr Yakushev in this eerily cold and unforgiving dark ambient release.

'The idea of the remix project sort of implied itself along the creation of the album: since I treated creating music as planning journeys in ‘cities’ that are made out of several dozens of sonic building blocks, I quickly realized that besides releasing music as ‘finished’ tracks, I very much wanted to share my experience of discovering such journeys with my fellow artists as well.

I believe this project opens up the structures and possibilities of ‘Automated Dances’, where each producer reacts true to their own artistic values and aesthetics. Exploring, experimenting and reconstructing is the very nature of what we do - with ‘AD Remixes’ we wanted to share the joy and excitement of all of these creative processes. At the same time, I consider ’AD Remixes’ to be a celebration of some of my dearest artists living and working in the cutting-edge electronic music scene today.

Let me thank all of you who contributed to this project, you are truly inspiring me to think and feel about music in many different ways. And obviously, a huge thanks goes for EXILES label-boss Erik: without your persistent help and support, this project would be a non-existent one.'

Escupemetralla brings to you from the future some dark and scary electronic music, thanks to a Tipler Cylinder, a device for time-travelling. Our war ambient or twisted symphonic music becomes, by means of surrealistic mechanisms, the soundtrack of these days, which sometimes resembles already existing music, appropriated, plagiarized, and then warped to describe horror and mayhem. We are the architects of fear, be ready to feel terrified! 

The name of the duo (Spitshrapnel in Spanish) formed in 1987 in Barcelona, comes from an anarchist song from the 1930s (“Throw the bomb, which spits shrapnel…”).

According to its members, “Escupemetralla are the result of a series of retrotransmissions that will be carried out in the mid 21st Century at the Thorne's Cone Light Reversion Laboratory for Children of Los Alamos, Texas (Federal States of Mexico and Puerto Rico). In a way, currently Escupemetralla is nothing more than a virtual entity that will actually exist in a few years’ time.”

They define their sound as “obscure electronics”, “war ambient” and “twisted symphonic music”, encompassing noise, industrial music, futuristic 
 experimentation, plagiarism and appropriationism. Their productions were published in the 1980s and 1990s mainly as cassette tapes by Clonaciones Petunio. Between 1998 and 2016 they remained inactive and in 2016 resumed their activity.
