The Venezuelan turpial, also called guajiro turpial or simply turpial (Icterus icterus), is a species of passerine bird of the icterid family endemic to northern South America. It is a small bird, with a black head and wings and the rest of the body yellow.

It is the national bird of Venezuela, and this is a tribute to its beautiful song.

It is also a wildlife refuge, where several species of birds and turtles are mainly protected. The island is made up of sand and some vegetation, and is an dangerous area for navigation.
