I’ve been making this little edits of records from my collection to make them a little bit more DJ friendly. I just record both sides of the vinyl copy and assemble a new version from it. Add some minor details, make the mix a little bit more club friendly and that’s it. I like the fact that when you’re playing this edit you’re actually listening to the vinyl from my collection, so you might hear an occasional click or pop.

Premiere: John Parsley - High Life (Local Suicide & Time To Sleep Remix) [Playground Records]

After the huge success of his 2nd album Solar Nights, Tim Bernhardt, AKA Satin Jackets, kicked off 2020 with a return to his nu-disco roots releasing a series of sublime instrumental singles. Now, having soundtracked the summer with hit collaborations with Metaxas and Panama, Tim caps a year like no other with a final instrumental release, the contemplative and wistful ‘A Higher Place’.

"'A Higher Place' is a track I wrote to evoke certain memories, specifically those that give me a feeling of elevation, of being lifted up. I wanted to bottle that feeling up so I could return to it when I needed a moment of reflection," explains Tim. "So for me this song is a time capsule of sorts, a souvenir of how I felt over the summer and now with the days drawing in and autumn in full force, I can return to it and sustain myself off those memories again."

A soft, gentle track, ‘A Higher Place’ combines calming synth washes with a sparkling melody, uplifting pianos and short snippets of delicate vocals to create a warm, nostalgic feeling. In the instagram version of your life, where you haven't spent the last 10 months staring at the same 4 walls, it's the kind of track that would be playing in a soft focus video where you and all your beautiful friends are dancing and laughing in a beautifully lit garden. Ah well, next year perhaps but until then press play, relax and let Satin Jackets lift you up...

T99, aka Belgian techno duo Patrick de Meyer and Olivier Abbeloos, haunted the raving dancefloors
of the early 90’s techno scene and gained interminable notoriety following the release of
their hit track ‘Anasthasia’ in 1991. Floating between hardcore and ambient techno, their unique
sound still resonates at the core of the modern rave scene and the undying essence of the supreme
rave anthem that is ‘Anasthasia’ still lives on.
Two decades on, tenacious techno figurehead Jerome Delfosse aka Cri Du Coeur has popularised
his new alias and Arkham Audio label boasting the ultimate electrifying sound. It comes
as no surprise that these 90s music legends have come together to bring us the sweet nectar

In the fall of 2015, Joseph Ashworth & Andrew Armstrong aka Horixon released ‘Colours’ on Eskimo, featuring the alluring vocals of Else Born from Norway’s finest pop export, Philco Fiction. Glasgow powerhouse duo Illyus & Barrientos did a remix and turned the track into a stirring piece of electro flavoured UK house. The edit is now -finally- available on all streaming platforms.

A year on from the release of Pezzner’s excellent entry into Get Physical Music’s iconic Body Language series, the label are to serve up brand new remixes of key tracks from it, with DJ T., Ardalan, The Vinyl Depreciation Society and Kraak & Smaak all coming correct. 

It is the label’s own DJ T., still riding high off his recent album who goes first. He works ‘I Am You’ into a fat, low slung and deep tune with a patient house groove and searching synths. When the synth riffs eventually get set free, the tune rolls on to what will no doubt big reactions. Next comes a label debutant in the form of Ardalan, an Iranian DJ and producer based in San Francisco, he is a DirtyBird regular with a bass heavy and wonky sound. Here he works up a nimble groove, with punchy kicks and wispy pads off-set by rasping, textured bass that makes a big impact. 

The Vinyl Depreciation Society is an assembly of DJs and producers dotted around the data stream who last landed on this label with their Phoenix single in December 2019. They’re in colourful, cosmic disco mode here, with reverberating arps and sci-fi motifs all adding rich detail to the chunky beats. Last but not least, Kraak & Smaak have been riding on a wave of success since their Pleasure Centre album on Boogie Angst at the end of last year. They head down a dark and dirty late night path here with watery sound effects, a teasing bassline that rides up and down the scale and freaky effects designed to thrill. 

These four fantastic remixes bring plenty of new character and charm to the still standout originals.

He loves these summer moments but also enjoys off-season when there are no tourists, no parties he’s going down to the downtown to dig old/new records and vintage synths.
