Paper's hook up with Norway continues to pay dividends with new artists who seem to knock it out the park with each release.

The latest is People Love Music's Diskobeistet who tick all the boxes for grasping the sound of Paper's heritage on a 4 track EP release for lovers of straight up "proper" house.

Birkelunden teams up tribally beats and smoking Rhodes with a Norwegian gentlemen's vocal that we're told is about going to the park, having a smoke and jumping up and down on a bouncy castle. So now you know.

The remix comes from another of our Norwegian friends, De Fantastiske To's Ravi who gives it a bit of old school grit and jack before the bleepy bloppy style breakdown opens it up for the darkest dance floors. Is it techno? Is it house? Who cares!

Gammal Morro goes late night with a lazy hazy, sunset drenched vibe hooked around a Rhodes and nagging riff. Drive with the top down on this one and sport a pair of sockless espadrilles while you're at it.

Nattergal is classic Paper all over, live sounding drums with snaps and claps in all the right places alongside a low slung bass line & chika chika guitar. Never straying far from the path, this is house for those that like it simple, straight forward and solid.

E.F.G. - Resurgence

UK based DJ and producer Fort Romeau presents a deeply ethereal and atmospheric excursion with ‘Reasons’, his first self-released EP that showcases the scope of his hypnotic sound profile.
 
Following releases on Ghostly International, Cin Cin, Running Back and Live At Robert Johnson, For Romeau delivers his first original EP since last year’s ‘Secrets & Lies’. He’s touched on a variety of motifs throughout his career, from acid to more delicate styles, now he offers the full package with his latest release.
 
Paired with steady, driving rhythm and enveloping atmospherics Fort Romeau plays with seductive vocals to create an eerie, yet inviting soundscape on ‘Reasons’. The title track off the new EP builds into a crescendo of synth with a subtle release to cap off the dreamy production.

Capping what has been another vintage year, nu-disco star Tim Bernhardt, aka Satin Jackets, sees out 2018 in style with 'Lost In Japan', a cover of Canadian star Shawn Mendes' recent mega-hit. Featuring frequent collaborator Niya Wells ('Primordial', 'Never Enough') on vocals, the pair have transformed the pop smash into a smooth slice of late night disco.

"We'd just finished recording our last single together 'Primordial' and were knocking around some new ideas," Tim explains. "We'd talked about doing a cover so Niya played me the new Shawn Mendes single and as soon as I heard her sing it I was sold. It's always interesting to try and put your own spin on someone else's song, especially one that's been as popular as 'Lost In Japan', but I think together we've managed to give it a fresh take." 

Whether producing modern Balearic house anthems such as 'You Make Me Feel Good', seductively soulful tracks like 'Through The Night' or genuine poolside classics like 'For Days', Tim has established himself as one of the biggest names in the modern disco scene clocking up more than 35 million streams of the debut Satin Jackets album, 'Panorama Pacifico', on Spotify alone.

The result is another winning addition to Monte's ever-growing discography that recalls the likes of Leon Sylvers III, D-Train, Harold Faltermeyer, and even the works of Jam & Lewis for artists like Janet Jackson and The Time.

Monte - Close To Me

Released on Eskimo Recordings at the start of the year 'Every Turn' by https://soundcloud.com/horixon (Monarchy’s Andrew Armstrong and Joseph Ashworth) and Norwegian singer Else Born (aka Philco Fiction’s Turid Alida Solberg) was a perfect moment of heartfelt, leftfield pop.

Horixon's Joseph Ashworth clearly had unfinished business with the track though. Whilst the original put Turid centre-stage Joseph has now re-tooled it into two more club friendly versions, good news for anyone familiar with his acclaimed solo releases on labels such as NeedWant, Life and Death, AnjunaDeep, Jonas Rathsman's Elements label and Catz n Dogz' Pets imprint. https://soundcloud.com/josephashworthmusic

For his first remix Joseph strips the track back to shuffling percussion and a liquid bass-line, allowing jazzy keys to dance across the track as snippets of Turid's vocals punctuate the track, the result a beautiful deep house track that sits somewhere between Havana and Detroit.

Finally Joseph turns in his 'Night Vision', a skeletal interpretation of the track, a driving rhythm section overlaid with staccato synth stabs, increasingly wild sound effects and again traces of Turid's heavily modified vocals pinging around like a ghost trapped in the machine.

Originally released on Eskimo Recordings' 'Yellow Collection', Middle Sky Boom & Eliezer's 'Slow With The Run' has long been a secret weapon for those DJs that like to take a break from the 120bpm bangers and give the dancefloor a bit of space to breathe and get freaky. Now those who have kept the faith are rewarded as Eskimo have dipped into their back catalogue, dug out the parts and invited Swedish producer Paresse and Parisians Il Est Vilaine to rework the track in their own special ways. 

Having impressed with his 'Sloth Machine' EP Stockholm based Paresse is first up to the plate. Keeping the basic structure in tact, Paresse opts to gild the original rather than embark on any wholesale changes. Building his remix around a mesmerising synth loop that he develops and builds upon across 6 minutes, Paresse delivers one of those numbers that locks you into its hypnotic groove and then before you know it your hands are in the air and you're bellowing 'TUNE' at the person sweating away next to you. 

Il Est Vilaine meanwhile rewind Belgian history to a moment long before Eskimo had been born and the lowlands reverberated to the martial beat of EBM and New Beat. Nudging down the tempo, Il Est Villaine pair the original's Arabesque guitar riff with the kind of heavily gated drums and synth arpeggios that would have set the strobes off at Boccaccio in the 80s.

The Bronx born Jake The Rapper has become something of a Berlin legend, following his long exile in the German club capital. His residency at the noto- rious Bar25 will live on in memory, but his musical innovation continues.
Here, he joins Ouïe Circle - the label of Bar25 cohorts Nico Stojan and Acid Pauli - established as an outlet for like minded producers.
This four track EP provides four different takes on Lullaby No.2. The Radio Ver- sion is a funky, mid tempo house cut, featuring Jake’s unmistakable vocals.
Perfectly in keeping with the aesthetic of Ouïe, the track features guitars, keys, and a seductive low key groove.
The full version stretches out over almost 7 minutes, primed for the club.
The remix by Freudenthal (Nein Records, also one half of Berlin based New Wave Duo Pardon Moi) is a more synth heavy take, somehow referencing the best of 80s pop alongside the more psychedelic end of the club spectrum. It’s also presented here in a radio ver- sion - Jake’s mastery of pop sensibilities making it an obvious move for radio play.
