PREMIERE : Forbidden Fruit - Late Night Strut

Following on from their previous release ‘Good Face’, PolyGlove find themselves keeping the dial set to 120 and exploring more dance-oriented compositions on their new EP Lipsync.
PolyGlove are a Dublin based electronic duo comprising of Stephen Maguire and Niall Conroy. Starting out in 2014 the band first cut their teeth to the late night Dublin gig scene. Since then, they have been at the forefront of the rising live techno scene in Dublin, organising underground gigs and bringing their array of hardware synthesizers wherever they go, promoting live electronic music.
With backgrounds in Fine Art and Film they combine their sonic and cinematic crafts into a singular artistic production. Combining the best of their analog and digital equipment they cultivate their own distinct form of techno - with performances marrying their array of hardware synths with custom made psychedelic visuals.
Their new EP Lipsync continues the group’s penchant for complex polyphony, layering of rich poly synths and bullish unwavering basslines, but hones in on a kind of funk steeped sensibility bringing the listener back to a more familiar budding discotheque.
Lead track ‘Calf’ is disco-inspired and features an evocative lead line that could be heard in the likes of a Todd Terje release. This post disco eulogy is echoed in ‘Nancy’ which features a similarly evolving lead line that&#39;s underpinned with lush pads courtesy of their Korg Poly 61 – a synth that features heavily across the entire release.
The EP ends with a not-so-secret track offering a relaxing and contemplative comedown, as a vaporwave-inspired remix of the previous track ‘Darius’ lulls the listener away into a vast sonic Dreamland.

PREMIERE : PolyGlove - Calf

Martin Horntveth, otherwise known as Norwegian electronica producer Gouldian Finch - returns with an exceptional remix package featuring some of the most exciting and talented Norwegian, electronic music talent. Taking on the remix duties for his album track “Natas Kaupas” is none other than nu-disco royalty Lindstrøm and rising electronic talent Pow Pow.


Written in inspiration and named after one of Martin’s favourite skateboarders, Gouldian Finch explains that Natas Kaupas is “mainly based on a bass riff that can be perceived in two different tempos and about 50/50 of the band members play the tempo that sounds right in their head.“


The original track is a testament to the creativity and unique approach Martin takes to making music, passionately breaking down sonic boundaries of what “should” be done. Lindstrøm of course, then gives the track an exceptional Nu-Disco makeover in true Norwegian style. He explains he “wanted to try to strip it down to the bone and then rebuild it with a few but selected musical components. I ended up using a lot of the bassparts, the lovely strings plus of course Martin's drums. I am very satisfied with the resultant think it has become an interesting contrast to the original without losing the intense nerve, essence and soul of the original recording” - Lindstrom


With the Pow Pow remix, you can hear the lower tempo electronica building throughout the track. The strings are still prevalent, but theres a more laid back feel to the remix. Pow Pow explains “Our remix is a musical homage to the Oslo disco and the era when Oslo was the world’s epicentre of electronic dance music.The remix is built around the “disco strings” from the original and a RolandJuno106. To be invited into Martin’s musical universe, fantastic and bonkers as it is, has been so cool!” - Pow Pow


About Gouldian Finch


Martin Horntveth's illustrious career includes co-founding the globally celebrated band Jaga Jazzist and contributing to the success of The National Bank. He has showcased his production prowess across a diverse range of artists, including DumdumBoys, deLillos, Malin Pettersen, Jim Stärk, and Wizrd, among others. Beyond his musical endeavors, he has composed and produced music for television series like "Himmelblå", "Estonia", "Mammon" and "Twin", and has made significant contributions to the film industry, including "For vi er gutta" and the Oscar-nominated documentary "Do Not Split". Gouldian Finch marks another remarkable chapter in his illustrious career.


Martin says, "I've been contemplating creating this album since the early 2000s, but the process has always been interrupted by some better-paying gig or project. Most importantly, I've spent a lot of time trying to "land" on a sound that would encompass everything. It was only when I decided to put everything I love into the same pot that it clicked, and it made sense to release the music.

PREMIERE : Gouldian Finch - Natas Kaupas (Lindstrom Remix)

Senza Parole... Sans Mots... meaning without words… or as ol’ Frank might’ve put it, “do-be-do-be-do-”.

Having made records under various aliases in the early 90s, Alistair Gibbs made his first release under the Nebraska name in 2000. Since then, he has built a solid reputation with releases on respected labels like Heist, Delusions of Grandeur, Razor-N-Tape, Rush Hour, Mister Saturday Night, and on his own Friends & Relations imprint.

Losing none of that on-the-one-heavy disco funk he is known for, Nebraska's latest suggests nothing short of the Art Of Noise sharing a booth with Depeche Mode in a long-forgotten Italian disco!  Drawing inspiration from those sampled vocal melodies on 80s cuts like ‘I Can’t Wait’ by Nu Shooz and ‘Oh Yeah’ by Yellow, Nebraska gives us three versions of this highly infectious, head shaking, foot tapping earworm. In addition to the full-length the ‘Edit’ cuts straight to the wordless melodic hook, while the ‘Dub Coda’ leaves more space and heads off into more cosmic depths.

PREMIERE : Nebraska - Senza Parole

Dombrance has been described by The Sunday Times as "a French Jarvis Cocker with a bushy moustache and flares." He is a musical maverick who last year released his debut full-length album and performed relentlessly across the globe from Glastonbury Festival to Downtown Los Angeles, a set before Underworld at Tropico Festival in Mexico and many more. He says, "For five years I’ve been using the names of politicians to create pieces of music. This formula has enabled me to create characters and give a fun visual identity to each song. For months now, I have been working on new productions, but I wanted to end this politician cycle in style with two songs - the final bouquet." 'Bayrou' is a politician who had to leave the government barely after entering it after being indicted for embezzlement of public funds. It's a timeless electronic disco sound with sugary chords and glistening arps that bring cosmic warmth to the retro-future beats. ‘Copé’ is a politician who disappeared suddenly from circulation after publicly mistaking the price of a ‘pain au chocolat’. The fantastic tune is a prickly seven-minute disco odyssey with pulsating synth sequences and crunchy percussion. It's twitchy and edgy and perfect for peak time. First to remix is the legendary François K, who flips 'Copé' into a psychedelic wonder that navigates in different directions and through several genres that will make dancers lose their minds. Scandi-disco king Lindstrøm then comes through with an exotic remix of ‘Bayrou' that makes you imagine a cocktail pool party filmed by David Lynch. Venerated veterans Daniele Baldelli & Dionigi are the perfect artists to serve up a tribute to Italo-disco with their brilliant take on ‘Bayrou’, and Rigopolar shows he is a master magician of minimal disco with his seductive remix of 'Cope'. Freudenthal, a former member of the Pardon Moi group, cooks up two remixes of ‘Copé’ stuffed with cortisone and muscular beats and DiskJokke, a talented Norwegian space disco pioneer, brings serious old school rave to his version of 'Cope.' Last of all, Josh Ludlow's remix of the same tune has a super nostalgic and bright 80's drum machine feel.

Double Trouble

PREMIERE : Dombrance - Bayrou (Lindstrøm Remix)

Released in 1989, 'Once Bitten' is the lone single from Kim Yaffa, an LA singer once signed to the Hollywood indie label Macola Record Co. Not long after recording this single, Yaffa shelved her music career and moved on to other aspects of the business, but she has become a cult figure amongst those who knew her work. 'Once Bitten' has only ever been available on 7" before now and is an effortlessly classy pop tune with hints of 80s blue-eyed soul and Sade-inspired sounds that lend it a timeless Balearic feel. Copies of the original 7” have been changing hands for as much as $2,000 online in recent years. Hence, this is a genuine bit of musical treasure. Says Kim about the release, "In the Late 80s Los Angeles had so much going on musically. After singing on a couple of records on Macola Records and backgrounds for other artists, I was searching for my sound, trying to find my footing as a songwriter and performer. I connected with a producer who seemed to get what I was going for and we hired Richard Elliot from Tower of Power at the time for that sexy horn sound, and we recorded Once Bitten and Lights of LA at Larrabee Sound. I think I was really into what Sade and Taylor Dayne were doing at the time, that jazzy vibe! We pressed the songs to a 45 and soon after were kind of forgotten about." Remixer Michael David is a member of the influential Los Angeles-based group Classixx, has released music on Cascine Records and worked with Holy Ghost!, Meyer Hawthorne, and Kaitlyn Aurelia Smith. His version adds oodles of echo and reverb, slows things down and makes it a more trippy affair with languid lead guitars that bring a seductive and sleazy feel. London-based production duo and Record Mission label founders Nick the Record and Dan Tyler have vast DJ experience between them. Nick runs the Tangent party with John Gomez, and Dan Tyler is one-half of the legendary Idjut Boys. Their remix is perfectly sunny, primed and ready for open-air dancing with its exquisite flutes. The soulful original vocal is left to roll and will ensure this one becomes a real Balearic anthem. 'Lights of LA' is a second original from Yaffa that oozes low-key 80s charm. It has steamy sax and vocals and lush acoustic guitars, all irresistibly tingling the senses. 

New Islands will focus on the forgotten cross-genre and cross-cultural music of the 80s, 90s, and 00s, connecting them with the future. This first project is a superb one to get it underway.

NYC-based producer and DJ Lauren Ritter (All Day I Dream, ReSolute, Rift Vision) returns to her roots with “Antigone // Sarus”, a new EP featuring two emotive, nostalgic, and melodic original compositions, “Antigone” and “Sarus,” that are sure to please fans of her All Day Dream 2015 debut Lark EP and her recent Rift Vision output alike. “Antigone” is an ever-evolving, bubbling, and driving number that showcases her classical music training and sensibilities, while “Sarus” is an airy, serene, glittering, and uplifting complimentary composition. Lauren invites friends Powel (DE – All Day I Dream) and Zone+ (BH – All Day I Dream / Satya / Mixcult) to provide their takes on both tracks, who each weave in dynamic grooves and vocal elements in their signature styles to underscore Ritter’s melodic motifs.

Lauren Ritter unveiled her imprint Rift Vision in 2020 during lockdown and has since released three emotive EPs encompassing her own solo compositions, collaborative works with Oakland-based poet Tenesha The Wordsmith (On The Corner), and remixes by lauded talent such as Octo Octa, Lawrence, Jenifa Mayanja, and Rrao. Stay-at-home DJ no more, Ritter has been back DJing in full force, with appearances incl the Zamna festival NYC, Do Not Sit Miami, Shameless Seattle, Public Records NYC. 2024 kicked off with a long-awaited return to Lee Burridge’s All Day I Dream label, with Ritter being featured in their winter compilation. This year will include more releases from Lauren, including another EP entitled Blue Nine on Rift Vision in November.

Antigone / Sarus

Here at Bordello, the hot season has already arrived. Championing this warmth is Italy’s very own Hey Cabrera! The Turin based dynamo melds elements of electro disco, italo and house to create a uniquely aromatic blend of dancefloor joy. Clean drum patterns, claps and hi-hats are at the foundation of “Italo Void”. From these percussion points, a bold and ensnaring melody takes flight; glimmering synthlines shining from beginning to end. Fellow Bordello mainstay, Lauer arrives to bring his own analogue sound to the title piece. Accentuating that irrepressible tune, piano keys give extra ballast with a touch of late evening romance as we wait for the sun to come up. The flip transports us to Scandinavia for some unrequited love. Although “Forelskelse” may mean unexplored passions, this track is brimming with emotions. Burning with a smouldering energy, ingredients from disco to house combine to produce a wonderfully uplifting work. David Bay, of Zissou Records fame, closes with his interpretation of “Forelskelse”. A measured introduction gives way to those addictive notes of the original, Bay stripping back the samples to allow the instruments to sing. A soundtrack to see us into a magical summer.
