Raised on the sounds of Motown and Stax, Ray’s early musical education came from soul, gospel, and disco. In the ’70s, his world expanded with ska, punk, Southern rock, and classic rock—an eclectic mix that shaped his unique approach to songwriting and performance. Influenced by legends like Muddy Waters, B.B. King, Aretha Franklin, The Rolling Stones, James Brown, The Allman Brothers, and Jimi Hendrix, Ray draws from a wide emotional and sonic palette.

In the late ’80s and early ’90s, he immersed himself in acid house and the underground rave scene—an experience that deepened his appreciation for rhythm, atmosphere, and the unifying power of music. This electronic influence subtly informs his modern production style, blending analog emotion with digital tools.

Ray started playing guitar in senior school and now produces his music using a DAW, combining live instrumentation with contemporary production. His creative process is more than just technical—it’s therapeutic. Music has played a key role in his mental health journey, offering both expression and healing, and that emotional depth is felt throughout his work.

Sykodelik is a hip hop recording artist/battle rapper/contemporary keyboardist who has vigorously made a name for himself as one of the most lyrical emcees to represent Barstow, CA.
