Roam Recordings’ 38th release comes from Italian producer Luca ‘DJ Rocca’ Roccatagliati. Having previously released on Compost, Classic, Sonar Kollektiv, rekids, International Feel and currently working with Daniele Baldelli and Dimitri from Paris his impressive acid disco narratives were perfect for Roam Recordings.
The EP starts out with DJ Rocca’s original ‘Maccheroni’ – a stunning blend of jazz, latin rhythms, and analog melodies – that shows undeniably the mastery of this dance music veteran. Joining the EP for a remix is New York’s Eric ‘Dr Dunks’ Duncan (half of legendary DJ & production duo Rub n Tug & also half of DFA’s ‘Still Going). While DJ Rocca’s version could just as easily be played at cafe as in the club Eric Duncan takes the remix into acid warehouse territory. The EP continues with ‘Aula’, another excellent original from the maestro DJ Rocca. ‘Aula’ keeps with the theme of blended jazz, latin rhythms, and analog melodies, but in a much more subtle stripped down fashion. Also joining the EP to remix ‘Aula’ is Black Spuma, the production duo of Lauer (Tuff City Kids/Talamanca System) and Fabrizio Mammarella (Telespazio) who have a history of quality releases on labels such as Running Back, Beats in Space, Permanent Vacation, Rollerboys Recordings and International Feel. Together they rework Rocca’s ‘Aula’ into a head nodding house music for house people textured track with a body moving bass line. A superb addition to the strong cast already on this EP

5 Years of Love On The Rocks

Paramida made her name as an integral part of the new Berlin school of DJs embracing a more expansive sound, a charismatic and eclectic idealism beyond the steady, straight-forward pulse of house and techno. Following five years at the city’s diverse OYE Records store, and alongside an international schedule of DJing, she has spent the previous five crafting her Love On The Rocks label in that same generous spirit.

Now, with half a decade passed, she has called upon many of the label’s previous associates, alongside some new faces, to curate a four-disc compilation produced upon the adventurous and personal principles upon which the label was founded. The title of the collection is ‘Supergau’, which Paramida explains to mean "A disaster beyond all expectations". It’s a typically pithy title for a label that’s found a unique groove between dancefloor fulfillment and surprising turns, keeping it’s dedicated buyers and open-minded DJs on their toes, just as Paramida likes it. Still, it hasn’t always been easy.

“Those 5 years didn't fly by,'' admits Paramida. “I had moments of doubts and thoughts about stopping the label. But something inside didn't let it happen. So whatever I'm doing with the label is something that is so deeply rooted in me that I'm not ready to stop yet. This compilation represents five years of ups and downs, tears and joy, growing, losing and finding itself again. I've never really questioned or reflected it much. The label has been pretty much a mirror of my personal life, my taste at a certain point and the artist or person that was involved in my life at that particular stage of my life. As such, I want to give this first chapter of Love On The Rocks a nice closure.”

Some artists on the compilation return to the fold, such including Fantastic Man, Massimiliano Pagliara, Violet, ELLES, Etbonz, Dirk Leyers and Alex Kassian. Others are featured for the first time such as Francis Inferno Orchestra, Bartellow and Eric Duncan. And others again are a complete surprise, including Kornél Kovács, Daniela La Luz and Hermann Kristoffersen. ‘5 Years of Love On The Rocks’ presents an opportunity for artists to explore the charismatic boundaries between house, disco, new wave and acid, with the shared goal of sheer dancefloor bliss.

“Every record I put out felt like a message I'm sending out into the universe”, explains Paramida. “And everyone featured on this compilation is someone I deeply connect with, even though it's a pretty unexpected mix of artists. Here’s to the next five years.”

They but now who seemed in bigness to surpass Earth's giant sons, now less than smallest dwarfs, in narrow room throng numberless—like the conjurers of 'Light Magic' beyond the Tuscan mount; or faery elves whose midnight revels by a forest-side or fountain some belated peasant sees, or dreams he sees, while overhead the moon sits arbitress, and nearer to the Earth wheels her pale course: they, on their mirth and dance, intent with jocund music charm our ear; at once with joy and fear our hearts rebound. Such place eternal justice has prepared for those rebellious; as far removed from the rave and light of a sunrise set as from the centre thrice to th' utmost pole.  Oh Side B, how unlike the place from whence they danced! There the companions of the artist’s departure, o'erwhelmed with floods and whirlwinds of tempestuous fire, he soon discerns; and, weltering by his side, one next himself in power and next in crime, long after known at the ESP Institute, and named Koehler. If he whom mutual league, united thoughts and counsels, equal hope and hazard in the glorious enterprise joined with me once, now misery hath joined in equal ruin; into what pit thou seest from what height fallen: so much the stronger proved he with his thunder; and till then who knew the force of those dire arms. Farewell, happy fields, where joy for ever dwells! Hail, 'The Grand Illusion', receive thy new possessor — one who brings a mind not to be changed by place or time. These two songs will sit you dove-like brooding on the vast abyss.
