It’s hard to believe it’s been 16 years since Throne of Blood Recordings began. Originally conceived as a platform to release vinyl singles from NYC legends The Rapture, the label has grown and evolved into a stalwart of leftfield electronic music and a launchpad for some massively influential artists including Daniel Avery and Bicep.

We’ve never needed an excuse to celebrate, but hitting this milestone has made us contemplate our place in the world, reflecting on the relationships that have made Throne of Blood such an integral part of our lives and our legacy as an incubator for tomorrow’s most remarkable artists. So we’ve put together a series of anniversary EPs that bring our past and future together on the dance floor.

The first of four releases, Anniversary EP #1 features longtime friend and label collaborator Chloe Thévenin of Parisian powerhouse Lumiere Noire Records, label manager Max Pask in collaboration with Tigersushi mainman Joakim (for the first time since their killer edit of Evan’s Pyramid for Cultures Of Soul), NYC techno mainstay and Bunker affiliate Justin Cudmore, and Liona, a wildly talented producer from Ulaanbaatar.

Four musical points of view with one goal in mind: making people dance. And there’s loads more to come…

Jonny Sum (@jonny-sum) brings his brand of emotive driven dance music to HOMAGE with a masterclass in heartstring-tugging atmospherics and nuanced melodic downpours - merging together his shared experience from performing in NYC and LA.

Having recently remixed for Barker & Baumecker, Gallegos shares his unique synth writing and masterful grooves on ‘Haunted’ in a playful flip that fuses acidic melodies with skippy rhythms and assured sound design.

After last year’s Fathomless Music, Arkajo returns to Aniara with further investigations into the beauty of soundscapes and the primal power of rhythm. Title track Avasarala is a slamming broken beat poem of cosmic melancholia. Soothing yet stirring, it offers relief from the many stresses of modern life.  Tape 16 conjures bliss in the union of rugged groove and harmonic invocation. From the depths of northern darkness, it calls forth glimmering lights in rhythmic locomotion. Closing off the record, Expansive Mood is a nordic style tribal groover for dancing in the open air of the great outdoors-quintessential Aniara and a real gem.

Nathan Micay fell asleep in the schnee and awoke in the shvitz. Side A’s 'Never Rhythm Game' is a bubbling cauldron of acid worms, almost seven steady minutes of liquid squelch and bleep that rolls over an assortment of boom-boom kicks and claps, all glued together by droning strings and soaring feedback modulation. Aimed for peak time, this big-room monster builds on a major chord and carries us to that perfect rave apex, functioning as a pivot from where the witty DJ might steer into any subsequent direction. Side B’s 'Team Player' is equally poignant, yet to contrast its optimistic predecessor, Nathan constructs a dark mechanical narrative that summons influence from a distant sci-fi metropolis — sophisticated metallic rhythms that sound less polished as they do scrubbed with steel wool — lead by a seductive robot who chants degenerate dancing instructions. These two songs will oil your engine and grease your gears.

The couple sat side by side on the park bench, averting one another's gaze. Hours had passed since they'd first arrived, sometimes in silence, sometimes through heated exchanges. Loving and hurtful words had passed their lips but none of that mattered now. The decision had been made. They would go their separate ways. It was the right thing for both of them, but their lives had been tightly woven together for so many years, it was impossible to imagine life without one another. How someone so close could soon become a stranger...

Italian selector and producer Matisa released her first EP into the world last year via Optimo Music and introduced us to her Italo Disco-influenced productions. She now follows it up with a contribution to Sleep D's Butter Sessions new V/A Come Together, a five track EP that pulls in artists they've connected with both locally and internationally. Matisa's opener 'Gabardine' continues her appreciation of the Italo sounds that permeated her last release, crafting a punchy house number carried along by a hypnotic bassline.

Move D is a true legend in deep, house music. We own A LOT of his records. When we found the track 'Wanna Do' on the 50th Groove magazine cd full of exclusive tracks, we contacted him to ask if he would be interested in a vinyl release. The track was too good to be only available through that cd. So Move D sent a second - also really great - track along, and the result is what you're listening to at the moment. The first 300 copies are available on marbled purple vinyl. Get yours.
