The first 30 minutes are tuned in live and direct by mysterious producer Thomas Bush, who shuts down all the light in favor for a trip into the dark, where blues and folk guitar notes, outcast found sounds and a gentle depressed voice is bringing some profound light while keeping all roller shutters closed. Also, the second 30 minutes are gloomy. They been originated by Lithuanian jazz lover, musician and Vilnius based Hao Dao radio Host Ugne Uma, singing and playing together with LA based multi-instrumentalist Sam Gendel.  

The last hour belongs to German producer Philipp Matalla. As a long time Kashual Plastik friend he knows all the nuances of darkness, bringing a one-hour long rattlesnake trip full of wave emotions, manic jazz excursions, punk spitting, drone dunes, weedy dubby Word Sound raps and piercing found sound grooves.

Outsiders: Kashual Plastik w/ Thomas Bush & more @ Kiosk Radio 08.09.2021

Prodigal son of the ESP Institute, Juan Ramos, rises from the cesspool of a world gone mad with 'Agua Del Cenote', his fifth release with the label. Whilst many artists are following their inner light to bring us some much needed joy amidst these rotten times, Juan (being the little shit that he is) follows an inner demon and delivers listeners and dancers a demented clusterfuck of sadistic chaos. The title track opens with what sounds like a butane torch and we metaphorically freebase into oblivion. Our perception of reality unravels, writhing in abrasive textures smeared across a low-slung, mid-tempo erotic thump. Everything feels blurry and distant, as if we’re swimming through an underground aquatic tunnel, in a panic, searching for an invisible band of spirits whose tune summons us into certain annihilation. Following this is a remix from a decorated lord of 20th Century electronics, Harald Grosskopf AKA The Synthesist. Harald wipes away grit and lethargy to reveal elements hidden deep within the mix as well as softens Juan’s sense of terror by building up to an optimistic layer of added synth. We’d love to offer some relief with the balance of the EP, however, the remaining two tracks paint complimentary hues in the same cerebral palette. 'Let It Go (Freaks Only)' veers closely to House in terms of tempo and gestalt, utilizing a vocal sample from Third Generation (Kerri Chandler) and a healthy dose of sub bass, but Juan hardly apologizes for his masochistic tendencies and certainly never relents into an uplifting mood. Closing the EP, Juan serves an antidote of sorts with 'Cuko', as if suggesting a way out of the swamp, but leaves it up to the listener’s intuition to not only see the carrot, but actually follow it into the light, thus completing the quest.

The coastline stretched far into the distance, the shimmering waters crashing softly into the golden sands. They'd been driving for hours, taking in the sights and sounds, from bustling towns to empty beaches. Markets and bazaars lined the roads each filled with vibrant colours and smells that could coerce any driver off the road and into the throes. It was a feast for the senses and an experience that would stick in their memories for years to come.

Purveyors of all things hypnotic, Lithuanian imprint Electric Shapes return for another batch of trance-inspired sounds. Following releases from Kolomensky, Martin Kuška and Far East Flight, they draft in AJO aka Steppin' Wolf, who takes inspiration for his EP 'Maeng Da' from childhood trips with his father in India. Across the three acid-drenched cuts, bolstered by remixes from Tadan, Kolomensky and Tassilo Vanhöfen, AJO invites us to join him on a journey through the bazaars of Goa and on the path to a higher state of zen.
