For this bi-monthly show, they have invited duo @clubtularosa .We will start with a 1 hour mix with Club Tularosa, followed by another hour with WPS and will finish with a special interview with Club Tularosa member, Ray. 

A shared love of all things Italo, post-punk and new wave brought @raybarragan & @tresdubois together. The LA-based duo, who operate under the guise of Club Tularosa, cut their teeth on the club scene in their home city, putting on parties and bringing over artists from abroad. Here they honed their skills on the warm-up and carved out their own sound; an exploration of the cosmic and psychedelic corners of dance music.

What better way to celebrate the beginning of summer than with a brand new instalment of your favourite mix series The Sunrise Social? A big shout-out to Mark Limb at The Electric Disco for turning me on to some of the records featured on here. 

As always I've tried to balance older records with more contemporary finds. The mix opens with Riccardo Giagni's 'Kaunis Maa'. I first heard this on the Seekmagic Podcast about ten years ago but it took a me long while to finally ID the record. Originally released in 1988, this lovely new-age Balearic flavoured nugget was actually re-issued on limited edition LP by Archeo Recordings in 2019. Australian artist Max Santilli has featured on a number of our mixes, most recently on Coyote's guest-mix. 'Sundown' was taken from Santilli's 2019 debut LP Surface, released on the ever dependable Into The Light Records. Next up is Tessa Stivar's 'Thin Air', B-side of a 7" released in 1983 by Smash Records. Regrettably I don't know much about the artist, or the record for that matter, but I love the DIY feel of the track and of course the fretless bass. As for more contemporary material there's Eddie Chacon's soulful ballad 'Hurt' taken from his Pleasure, Joy And Happiness LP from 2020. Neo-folk artist Mia Doi Todd's Cosmic Ocean Ship LP is another fairly recent discovery for me; Quite embarrassing as this was actually released in 2011..! The acoustic song 'Paraty' is tribute to the natural beauty of Paraty Island, paradise exists! Other favourites on here include Godley & Creme's 'Cry', Penguin Café Orchestra's 'Steady State' and Soft Machine's 'Gentle Turn'.

MM CAST 19 - Luca Averna

After spending the last 2 months in that little paradise in the Mediterranean called Ibiza, we've decided to stay a little longer and complete the circle that we started with Harry Charles and continued with Camilo Miranda, inviting Luca Averna this hot July.

Being a resident in Ibiza for quite a few years and part of “Residentes Balearicos” project, Luca has brought to light plenty of hits in recent years that have been well-received in essential labels of the Balearic scene such as "Music for Dreams," "Balearic Ensemble," or "Cala Tarida Musica."

His great admiration and addiction to vinyl make Luca a regular at the San Jordi market, always seeking the next semi-unknown "gem" to add to his collection of over 10,000 records.

Luca Averna can also be frequently seen at that "small-but-great" temple of the Balearic movement, Pikes. Not in vain, he has a residency every week at the wonderful "Pool Side," forming a great team alongside Camilo Miranda and Cristian Len, shaping the collective-label "Homies."

And well, we wouldn't like to end this post without mentioning a fundamental element in Luca's life, his other passion, his dog Nina. Another marvelous living being, also regular at Pikes, another vinyl enthusiast, and another "Balearic resident."

Without further ado, here's this amazing set live recorded at Pikes, where the talented Luca takes us on an electronic journey into the Balearic and underground downtempo realms.
