Born -70 free spirit! Tape recordings of broken radio made at -77. Fan of all sorts of electronic music. Expect techno, acid house and synth made with a burning heart.

Discotech was first released on our Lockdown Radio Compilation last spring. Now remixed by the Italian lord of Dark Disco CSK and the label honchos Mindbender and Högt I Tak.

Duro is honored to present the birth of the “Baba” brotherhood. During the last pandemic year, Rina traveled from Tel Aviv to Portugal, where he met Switchdance. After some trips around the beautiful city of Lisbon, plates and plates of hummus and samosa, a visit to pick up raspberries at a field that used to be a medicinal cannabis farm and lots of hours in Switchdance's studio, 'Baba Music Vol. 1' was alive.

The journey initiates with the Portuguese version of "Give Way", a cut that narrates the moment when you are in a high state of mind and try to describe the process to get back to reality. For this version the duo worked with vocalist Abrão, where a deep and resonant bass, a synthesized voice, electric and acid melodies, and distant pads run through the space. It’s followed by the Hebrew version of "Give Away" where Rina takes control of the vocals. 

"Reak" means "empty" in Hebrew, the cut refers to a state of consciousness where there is nothing in the brain. Playful percussion, acid basslines mixed with digitally distorted synthesizers create the sensation of breaking out reality, an experience blended with algorithms, binary codes and atomized sounds where it is hard to distinguish the realness. A roar to all the Babas around the world to gather on the dance floor. 

To consummate the brotherhood with an embellishment, master Jonathan Kusama came up with two versions of "Give Way". The first one is a futuristic and dystopian dub masterpiece, with distorted bass lines, shady vocals and liquid percussion. For the second version Kusama brings up the energy and keeps the bass flickering and harsh, mixed with mind-bending and unhinged synthesizers.

He continues to stamp a name for himself in Eskişehir's underground scenes since 2018, exploring and promoting his sound which is influenced by dark disco, indie dance and electronic genres.

Counterterraism Guest Mix 172: Enes Güney

JGR's tight bond with music goes back at least 20 years in his native Chile. At a very short age he was director at Radio Horizonte, a very popular alternative FM radio station which left a huge mark in a couple of generations. That influence was then transferred into the online world with a brand new station — Rinoceronte. Building a reputation as a DJ, quickly gaining skills and a local following that led to him playing at important festivals like Fauna Primavera, Earthdance, Creamfields and Mysteryland, as well as co-founding a party called Fun Haus and playing all over Latin America and Spain.

After moving to Madrid, and leaving his media projects behind, Julián decided to complete a pending challenge. Thus, he learnt his trade at music production and released Sideral, his first solo solo EP, on German label Emerald & Doreen at the beginning of 2020. A few months later he hit back with a second, that came with remixes from Daniel Monaco and Aleito. As if that wasn't enough, that very same year he —alongside fellow Chilean Nico Castro— gave away an edit of the stone cold classic "Eye in the Sky", by The Alan Parsons Project, and had Canalla, a third solo EP, released by Spanish label Espacio Cielo.

In 2021 he has appeared on a few compilations by labels like Panal Records ("Soda") and Esthétique ("Spiritual Crocodiles"), as well as remixing Mexican producer Introverso. For 2022, JGR has some more songs and a new EP lined up.

His many years playing house and disco, as well as low speed psychedelic music, has drawn him to a personal style that comfortably fits the current dark disco scene. His sound can be described as being dark, with powerful basslines and layers of futuristic and spacey elements, combined with hooks that can get stuck in your head for days.
