At RA we have a multitude of voices, each one a music fanatic. Radio is a platform where many of us began our journeys within this world. We’d like to combine these voices and local stations in their cities, with local artists, label heads, record stores, designers and more to create two-hour long broadcasts celebrating these communities. Watch out for more over the coming months.

On 22nd February on Melbourne's Skylab, our very own Georgie Thompson aka Naise was joined by Aussie hardware fiend Rings Around Saturn plus the sounds of Sydney label Ken Oath for another Community Connections radio show.

Mike Parker, you would assume, is a perfectionist. His techno is meticulous, his grooves as hypnotic as any. Over the course of two decades he has honed in on his vision with ever increasing accuracy. He manages to get huge amounts of detail into his tunes that elevates them above purely functional material and lands him on labels like Semantica, Prologue and Tresor in both EP and LP format. 

The American is just as deep and powerful as a DJ, even without the use of kick drums. And that’s the path he follows over the course of one absorbing hour here, laying out a cinematic journey into space that is propelled by ambient synths and sci-fi motifs that set real scenes and have a real sense of narrative. At times it is blissful, at others more unnerving, but rarely will you hear an ambient mix as coherent and compelling as this.

"Leave No Trace"... a mantra borrowed from the more purist and hardcore camping ethicists. The general idea behind it being that you must minimize all environmental impact whenever you engage with the natural world as a means of responsibility. 
Around the time of this mix I was fascinated by Lee Lozano’s Dropout Piece and Seth Price’s How To Disappear In America — wondering what would it feel like to voluntarily drop out completely, to really leave no trace? Especially, what would our beloved planet look like? 
Musically, what I wanted to illustrate with this mix were two sides of an untouched and unpopulated planet. The eternal, chaotic hum of the natural world, the glow of an empty city left on overnight....Honk if you don't exist."

The Underwater Island is a collection of four tracks from Grenoble based producer Denis Morin. Philosopher, gardener, father and sonic explorer. Our friendship dates back over a decade, with some of this music first shared during a visit to Glasgow almost 5 years to the day - when 12th Isle the label was but an idea. For ISLE009, Vague Imaginaires gifts us with autobiographical field recordings, FM synthesis and skilled sound design inspired by the ocean and the Drac river which flows through the mountains of his city. Harmonising natural sound sources with digital realms, he navigates through minimalism, ambient techno and flashes of dub inspiration. Morin combines these musical ideas with Roland TR-8, 303 emulations, hydrophone recordings and vocal fragments from Tunisia, Morocco and Vercors Massif.
