Ian McDonnell returns to his EeOo moniker for the first time since 2018 with two EP releases on Eotrax in 2023. The first EP drops in early February with the second coming later in the year.

Taking inspiration from house, techno, trance and electro these EPs are an invitation to move and connect. Full of hope and joy but with an edge of urgency, here we find Ian at his most melodic and uplifting but still with his familiar percussive and gritty style.

Od jakiegoś czasu chodziło mi po głowie stworzenie techno słuchowiska, inspirowanego naturą, lasem, przyrodą, jeziorem i prawdą, sfora spadła mi jak z nieba, dając ogromną motywację do działania.

Wziąłem sprzęt w obroty - Ableton, Nord Drum, TR8s, Polyend Medusa, TD3, mikser djm i o to, co z tego wyszło.

A Forest Live Act

Miike has been a pioneer of hardcore techno and breakcore for over two decades under his moniker The Teknoist, but over the last few years he has focussed on, and released a considerable amount of more, what could be described as “more reasonable tempo techno and electronic music”, under the his other moniker, Technoist. Throughout the years, as The Teknoist, Miike has released on record label titans such as Planet Mu, Ad Noiseam, Industrial Strength, Deathchant and Peace Off. As Technoist, he has been able to add Love Love, Industrial Strength's 'Hard Electronic' and even Leisure System to his list of outlets, all along side the his multiple own record labels, Ninja Columbo, Samurai Brylkream, Our Fucking Jungle and now his newest joint venture, Grey Meta.

The EP features remixes by highly respected artists, Ben Pest (Mechatronica/I Love Acid) and Cocktail Party Effect (Tectonic/Sneaker Social Club), who have both contributed their unique spin to Miike's original tracks. Ben Pest's remix of Quest for Kenneth the Space Knife turns the more straight kicking existing piece in to a more swampy and groovy squat rave techno affair. Whilst Cocktail Party Effect's remix of Causal Loop Paradox takes the originals beautifully epic hang drum melodic element and runs with the musical idea, adding layers upon layers, where the end result builds to a frenzied energy that will leave listeners in a chaotic trance ...all while having a zero drums. Sublime. In addition to his music career, Miike has always been a positive outspoken advocate for mental illness and health awareness. He uses his platforms and blog to raise awareness and break down the stigma around mental illness and health issues. He is a passionate spokesperson for people that live with Bipolar, ADHD, Autism and Schizophrenia, as he does himself.

JOVZ: Thank you for the warm welcome! It's a pleasure to be here.

Virtual Underground: Let's kick things off from the very beginning. How did your DJing journey begin?

JOVZ: My journey started when I discovered a Yamaha synthesizer collecting dust during my youth. This encounter ignited a passion in me to experiment and craft soundscapes that spoke to my soul. The turning point was when I took to the decks with my first collective, CBN. That experience taught me the power of manipulating my music collection to transport listeners through diverse emotional landscapes.

Virtual Underground: That's truly captivating. Now, where would you say you draw most of your inspiration from?

JOVZ: The art of live performance is my muse. There's something deeply personal about designing a set and then modulating it live for an audience. This love for live music birthed my duo project, Midnight Café, where electronic rhythms intertwine with guitar and synth melodies, creating a nostalgic ambiance.

Virtual Underground: Intriguing! Could you delve a bit deeper into your music selection and mixing process?

JOVZ: Of course. My selection process is detailed. I thoroughly research artists and their inspirations before tracks make it to my USB. I also practice mixing tracks to know them inside out, ensuring I can seamlessly weave them into my sets.

Virtual Underground: And for this set, what tools did you employ?

JOVZ: I predominantly used my 4-track Pioneer controller with Rekordbox. The set also underwent meticulous mastering on Ableton. And, with your permission, I'm excited to share snippets of the set on Instagram to showcase my mixing prowess.

Virtual Underground: We're all for it! Lastly, could you share with us your dreamiest aspiration?

JOVZ: My ultimate dream was to tour all summer, drawing inspiration from each venue and crowd. Having lived that dream recently, my focus now is to immerse myself in a musical world, surrounded by a like-minded community that encourages genuine expression.
