Jamurai - Drum&BassArena Guest Mix

Dear Soundcloud follower, lately, there haven't been many musical updates. In recent years, I've been busy working at a conservatory for electronic music, where I'm actively coaching students. It's been incredibly rewarding, and I've dedicated myself to it wholeheartedly. 
However, about a year ago, I started exploring modular synths and purchased my first modules.

So if you come across this recording of my modular performance at Voltage Control in Paradiso don't be surprised; it's quite different from my DJ sets or previous productions. Was this performance perfect? Not necessarily. But for a debut with the modular, I am satisfied and plan to do this more often. Modular debut performance at Voltage Control Paradiso Amsterdam 21 - 01 - 24

As a longtime fan of the Alien franchise, I have been looking forward to seeing director Fede Alvarez's latest instalment Alien: Romulus. The sound team was tasked with designing an audible world that fit in with the original 1979 film but still lives in today's definition of what blockbusters should sound like. Supervising Sound Editors, Will Files and Lee Gilmore, are joined by Dialog/ADR supervisor Polly McKinnon and Sound Designer Chris Terhune to talk about the sounds of the Xenomorphs, launch sequences and building the ambiences before the film was shot. Antonio Ruscito -  Prima Imaginne - Edit Select Remix

Number 6 of Estroe's Rosedale Records brings you a release by Estroe herself.
The titles of the tracks expresses Estroe's love for nature. Myosotis Arvensis (Field Forget Me Not) and Tanacetum Parthenium (Feverfew) are two of her favourite flowers which bloom in June, the month of the release date.

Two highly regarded friends and fellow producers were invited for the remix honours, Berlin based Glitterbug and (music) BFF Nadia Struiwigh.

Estroe's original mix of Myosotis Arvensis starts with a simple but intriguing bassline and slowly builds amidst delicate, melodic patterns and lush, orchestral strings as if the flowers themselves are opening one by one. Her natural sense of groove prevails in the bassline throughout this meadow of fresh, early summer sound.

Tanacetum Parthenium (original) has an edgier feel to it. Again it is groove driven by a distinctive bassline but is awash with a tense, almost organic background and with darker percussive shots. Brooding orchestral swells bring to the track a sense of salient anxiety.

Glitterbug's Desperate Times remix of Myosotis Arvensis has an orchestral and cinematic quality. Deep sustained bass notes and a fluid and metallic rhythm drive this track along elegantly. The smooth solemn strings and glistening pads wrap this track in a cloak of sonic grace.

His other remix on the ep, Glitterbug's That Very Moment remix is a sublime piece of aural architecture. Ambient, emotional and with a heartbeat bass drum, it encapsulates the very moment one is struck by the tranquillity of seeing something beautiful. The strings in this track ebb and flow like serene breaths of cool air whilst the soft piano shimmers like early morning dew.

Always one to explore the deeper side of a track, like a botanist in a lab, Nadia Struiwigh dissects the original Tanacetum Parthenium and creates a remix which exemplifies her style. She creates a dark and pulsating mix of throbbing bass drums, cavern like reverbs and ominous, overdriven grooves that build the track perfectly.

3 QUESTIONS to ESTROE:

Q: How did you get in touch with electronic music? 

A: In 1989 I was mainly listening to disco, R&B (Swingbeat) and hip hop. Until a friend of mine who was into house music asked me to go with her to a so called 'house' party. It took me a few rounds of going out to appreciate the music fully. A definite turning point was when she gave me the CD of Quazar - Into the future. I was really impressed by the music, especially the track I've also used for my mix called 'Cycledrops'. Living close to Amsterdam I was able to listen to a few pirate radio shows who were broadcasting house music as well and that's how I got hooked on electronic music.

I have stories and memories with all tracks, but I'll highlight a few of them: 

- Wham: I was a big fan of Wham, at the end of elementary school I performed ' Wake me up before you go go'. I playbacked Shirley from Pepsi and Shirley, the background singers. At the time I also so had a crush on the guy who was imitating George Michael. I remember that this boy later got cancer and I don't know if he ever made it because we all went to different schools.

- New Edition: Just fell in love with the whole album when it came out. Hadn't listened to it for years and years until a few years ago I had a gig in Toronto. A new friend called Benny Chang gave me a lift in his car and he had this New Edition and old Bobby Brown cd's on this car stereo. I was so happy driving with him in his car and seeing the skyline of Toronto. I think it's one of the reasons I like Toronto so much.

- Janet Jackson: I remember the Janet Jackson concert, I think it was the Rhythm Nation tour. My friend and I had tickets but we somehow forgot the tickets! We had to use all our charms on the security guys and they let us through! 

- Mr. Fingers Closer: This is one of my first house records, I had to search for it for a long time, I think I finally found it one time when I played in Berlin and visited Hardwax.

Q: Besides Djing and producing you´re a real workaholic it seems. You're a teacher, a mental coach, working on a video project. Please give us an insight!

A: Having a background as a nurse I'm used to hard work. I've combined nursing and music for a long time until I quit nursing 9 years ago and decided to put all my cards on music. 2 years ago I was asked to apply for a job at a music conservatory that specialises in POP and Electronic Music, as a student coach. I love working there, the students and colleagues are ginving me so much inpsiration and energy! So nowadays I'm also coordinating the E-musicians who do internships at recordings studios etc. And I started giving E-performance lessons to the first year students together with Julien Chaptal who's also teaching. The combination of working at the conservatory and in my studio by myself keeps me in balance. Besides teaching I'm working on my other projects. My label Rosedale Records and I'm also producing my own music and remixes. With a photographer I know I'm making soundscapes for his small video porttraits. It's almost finished and I will share it on my social media then. If you like a preview keep an eye on my Instagram. 

Q: Which future projects from Estroe and your imprint Rosedale are on the way?

A: At the moment I'm also working on a special Rosedale Records live set, combing the visuals from AMMO with Rosedale music. A new release with Toki Fuko with a Brendon Moeller remix is coming out pretty soon. Recently I've also started experimenting with my voice in my productions. But my productions are going a bit slow now a days because I have to focus on so many different things during my week.

Esther Roozendaal, known as Estroe, is an electronic music artist exploring the boundaries of sound design and atmosphere. Where she once shaped dancefloors with deep and refined techno, her focus has now shifted to crafting immersive soundscapes and subtle, evolving beats—created entirely with modular synthesizers. Her music moves fluidly between texture and rhythm, blending experimental synthesis with a deep emotional core.
