Hi guys, it's been a while!
Nowadays I'm teaching at a music conservatory and I'm doing a lot of mental coaching of music students and music people in general. (hence the lack of time)
But as I couldn't find a nice techno mix without to much breaks for a  tread mill or for a work out, I figured I might as wel make a mix myself.

Estroe - Running Techno 136 BPM

Learning her DJ trade alongside Steve Rachmad, Adam Beyer and Joel Mull, as resident at Amsterdam's club Mazzo around the turn of the Millennium, Estroe, AKA Esther Roozendaal, was an onstage presence at huge events like Dance Valley, Awakenings and Tresor, way before venturing into the studio. 

Three years after her debut album, she releases 'Comfort and Closure' on the 14th of November via EevoNext. Softer and more delicate than her techno reputation might suggest, at it's heart, amongst swirling beatless instrumental and breakbeats, is a beating four four heart. This is also what you'll find on her podcast for us, with a tracklist covering Kenny Larkin (who Estroe played alongside at this year's ADE), Swerl and Kiki.

Back in the days when I the legendary club Mazzo still excisted and DnB came up I used to play DnB as well as house and techno. Once in a while I like to listen to my old records :-)

3 QUESTIONS to ESTROE:

Q: How did you get in touch with electronic music? 

A: In 1989 I was mainly listening to disco, R&B (Swingbeat) and hip hop. Until a friend of mine who was into house music asked me to go with her to a so called 'house' party. It took me a few rounds of going out to appreciate the music fully. A definite turning point was when she gave me the CD of Quazar - Into the future. I was really impressed by the music, especially the track I've also used for my mix called 'Cycledrops'. Living close to Amsterdam I was able to listen to a few pirate radio shows who were broadcasting house music as well and that's how I got hooked on electronic music.

I have stories and memories with all tracks, but I'll highlight a few of them: 

- Wham: I was a big fan of Wham, at the end of elementary school I performed ' Wake me up before you go go'. I playbacked Shirley from Pepsi and Shirley, the background singers. At the time I also so had a crush on the guy who was imitating George Michael. I remember that this boy later got cancer and I don't know if he ever made it because we all went to different schools.

- New Edition: Just fell in love with the whole album when it came out. Hadn't listened to it for years and years until a few years ago I had a gig in Toronto. A new friend called Benny Chang gave me a lift in his car and he had this New Edition and old Bobby Brown cd's on this car stereo. I was so happy driving with him in his car and seeing the skyline of Toronto. I think it's one of the reasons I like Toronto so much.

- Janet Jackson: I remember the Janet Jackson concert, I think it was the Rhythm Nation tour. My friend and I had tickets but we somehow forgot the tickets! We had to use all our charms on the security guys and they let us through! 

- Mr. Fingers Closer: This is one of my first house records, I had to search for it for a long time, I think I finally found it one time when I played in Berlin and visited Hardwax.

Q: Besides Djing and producing you´re a real workaholic it seems. You're a teacher, a mental coach, working on a video project. Please give us an insight!

A: Having a background as a nurse I'm used to hard work. I've combined nursing and music for a long time until I quit nursing 9 years ago and decided to put all my cards on music. 2 years ago I was asked to apply for a job at a music conservatory that specialises in POP and Electronic Music, as a student coach. I love working there, the students and colleagues are ginving me so much inpsiration and energy! So nowadays I'm also coordinating the E-musicians who do internships at recordings studios etc. And I started giving E-performance lessons to the first year students together with Julien Chaptal who's also teaching. The combination of working at the conservatory and in my studio by myself keeps me in balance. Besides teaching I'm working on my other projects. My label Rosedale Records and I'm also producing my own music and remixes. With a photographer I know I'm making soundscapes for his small video porttraits. It's almost finished and I will share it on my social media then. If you like a preview keep an eye on my Instagram. 

Q: Which future projects from Estroe and your imprint Rosedale are on the way?

A: At the moment I'm also working on a special Rosedale Records live set, combing the visuals from AMMO with Rosedale music. A new release with Toki Fuko with a Brendon Moeller remix is coming out pretty soon. Recently I've also started experimenting with my voice in my productions. But my productions are going a bit slow now a days because I have to focus on so many different things during my week.

Systematic Session #207 (Mixed by Estroe)

klinch - het Electronic Music Platform van de Melkweg - presenteert de tweede editie uit een nieuwe serie mixtapes! De serie tapes wordt verzorgd door artiesten die tijdens een klinch clubnacht komen optreden of op een andere manier aan het platform verbonden zijn, zowel jong talent als gevestigde namen.

Het is tijd voor klinch mixtape #3! De eerste vrouw in de reeks en zeker niet de minste! Niemand minder dan Estroe neemt het stokje over van Know V.A.. Estroe staat nu ruim 16 jaar achter de draaitafels. Ze houdt van lange sets waarin ze de tijd krijgt om te bouwen aan sfeer en waarin ruimte is voor zowel diepe onderstromen als het pure dansvloerwerk. Haar stijl is warm, subtiel en tegelijkertijd energiek.
Ook internationaal doet Estroe het goed; met de release van Driven op Connaisseur en Bellisimore op 7th Sign krijgt zij volledige support van o.a. Laurent Garnier, Funk d’Void en Ben Sims! Estroe started DJ-ing in 1998 and is regarded as one of the few international female DJs who made it to the top. She has travelled to the USA, the Caribbeans, Russia, Canada, Japan and across Europe. Estroe was one of the residents at the Off the Record nights at Club Ma22o from 2002, where she worked closely with Steve Rachmad, Cellie and Carlijn. Many established DJs and producers were invited during her sets: Adam Beyer, Joel Mull and Anthony Rother, amongst others.                                                                                         Meanwhile, she was also involved in a new talent night called Set Off, and the experimental soiree Explicit Sounds which she organised together with Steffi, who is now resident DJ at Panorama Bar, Berlin
Her career took off from there. Her style developed quickly and in more recent years, Estroe has been known for her warm, subtle mixes of techno and tech house that fluently evolve from delicate and warm music to darker sounds with energy and groove. She likes to set the tone at the beginning of an evening, and  is also in her element when performing at peaktime and not scared of throwing in some old school techno and electro.  Being a real people’s person, she is able to crank up the tunes and create a brilliant vibe on the dance floor.
Many top producers started out as DJs. Estroe is one of them. Her delicate and profound productions are not about maximum compression, distorted hi-hats or full-on bass drums. Instead, they are about atmosphere and space. 
Estroe started producing several EPs and singles (on labels such as Lessismore, Little-D, and Muzikism) before releasing Driven on Connaisseur Recordings in 2007.  This track sparked the interest of several big names. Ellen Allien chose Driven  for her Fabric.34 mix CD. John Digweed was blown away by this minimalist masterpiece and promptly asked her for a remix on his Bedrock label.
Estroe’s long-awaited debut LP Elemental Assets, featuring a guest appearance from Miss Kittin, followed in 2009 via Connaisseur Recordings and received widespread critical acclaim. Just recently this year, Estroe released her second album Comfort and Closure (EevoNext Recordings).
With her sophisticated, warm and elegant productions Estroe hasn’t gone unnoticed among other DJs. Dave Clarke booked her for his White Noise parties and she’s a resident at his Dave Clarke Presents event (Melkweg, Amsterdam) twice a year. She is also a frequently asked remixer, as is evident from the number of times her remixes for Bedrock, Manual Music, Tulipa Recordings and Cinematique hit the charts.
