Simon DK - “Float Laboratory” (1994)
After hearing the news of Simons passing and remembering with friends the subject of a certain mixtape came up …we all searched our boxes of cassettes without much luck and some empty cases …however Pete Slotter discovered and found what might well be the only existing copy …and as luck would have it the original tape!
Recorded at Simon DK's flat in Nottingham after the after party on a DiY Bounce night in 1994 after Bath crew John Kesecki & Pete Slotter went back to his and asked him to make a tape, which he did and named it 'Float Laboratory'. 
It's a lovely pitched down mix perfectly capturing those early hours.
It was brought down to Bath - copied and played ALOT!!. It was one of those tapes that just did the rounds and was loved by many…
So it was only right at this time to immortalise it and make it available for you to enjoy again or hear it for the first time...

Simon DK - Float Laboratory 1994

My latest mix Shine On 2 is a tribute to Dr Packer. A producer at the top of the game in my opinion. With his sublime reworks and fantastic remixes that are a pure pleasure to mix and have a real groove guaranteed to make you want to move. This mix includes tracks from artists like Roy Ayers, Chaka Khan, Lisa Stansfield, De La Soul, Herbie Hancock, Frankie Beverly And Maze, S.O.S. Band and Keni Burke. All of which Dr Packer has worked his musical magic on.
I am very happy with this mix and I think it does the tracks justice. You never know, it would be fantastic if he listened to my mix and let me know what he thought. I am very interested to hear all feedback from anyone who takes the time to give it a listen.

What do you desire? What makes you itch? What sort of a situation would you like?

Let’s suppose, I do this often in vocational guidance of students, they come to me and say, well, "we’re getting out of college and we have the faintest idea what we want to do". So I always ask the question, "what would you like to do if money were no object? How would you really enjoy spending your life?"

"Well, it’s so amazing as a result of our kind of educational system, crowds of students say well, we’d like to be painters, we’d like to be poets, we’d like to be writers, but as everybody knows you can’t earn any money that way. Or another person says well, I’d like to live an out-of-doors life and ride horses. I said you want to teach in a riding school? Let’s go through with it. What do you want to do?

When we finally got down to something, which the individual says he really wants to do, I will say to him, you do that and forget the money, because, if you say that getting the money is the most important thing, you will spend your life completely wasting your time. You’ll be doing things you don’t like doing in order to go on living, that is to go on doing things you don’t like doing, which is stupid. Better to have a short life that is full of what you like doing than a long life spent in a miserable way.

And after all, if you do really like what you’re doing, it doesn’t matter what it is, you can eventually turn it – you could eventually become a master of it. It’s the only way to become a master of something, to be really with it. And then you’ll be able to get a good feel for whatever it is. So don’t worry too much."
