ETCHTECH004 Kiyoko

Mas is the collaboration between audiovisual composer Samantha Corti and sound creator Théo Fernandez. 

They organize fragments of images and sounds, collected at different times and in various recording qualities, into a single organic unity. However, the material is never used in its pure form; it is inseparable from its alteration, distortion, and tearing - an attempt to sketch the dream of the sleep-deprived insomniac. 

To transcribe these nocturnal visions, they divert the primary function of electronic machines (tape recorder, microphones, printer, cathode-ray TV...) and, more recently, AI-powered synthesis tools. 

Their artistic research revolves around these dialogues between images and sounds, with a recurring theme being the relationship with memory and sensory memories. They embrace dystopian and cinematic universes, causing fictional characters to lose or regain their memories. 

In their installations, they also compose with space by multiplying listening and viewing points.

electroacoustic composer + revox performer

Théo Fernandez is a French composer and performer. Originally from Toulouse, now based in Paris. He moves through the territories of electroacoustic music. From this practice, he retains a plastic approach to the sound object: the careful, alert collection of sounds that ripen slowly; and find their consequences in the dramaturgy that link them to others. He works mainly with reel-to-reel tape recorders. Tape does not restore but re-deform again. An oxidisable nature that revisits what has been lost with digital clarity; in loops, where each passage carries a certain nostalgia for the future; where music belongs to a moment that may never have truly existed.
