Heart Trauma

This piece is titled “A Young Stemp Sleeps.” This comes from my goal of trying to create a more mellow and relaxing piece. This piece incorporates a simple drum beat coming from an electronic kit, and many different synth sounds. From smooth synth chords to more vibrant and dynamic sounding chords. “A Young Stemp Sleeps” follows two main melodic structures throughout the piece that come and go. The first melodic structure that the listener hears in this piece is a simple, but catchy melody. The melody consists of only three different notes and comes and goes throughout the piece. The next melodic structure that the listener will come across is one that is a bit more structured and incorporates a bass line that follows the melodic pattern you hear. You hear these two melodies cross paths throughout the piece. My main goal was to bring the melodies in early to draw their attention after hearing some smooth chords, then fading out of the melodies and have a more exploding and dynamically based chord come into play. My goal when doing this, was to bring a little tension into the piece. After this, you will hear the drums break to silence and the main melodic pattern that you heard at the beginning of the piece come back around again. A different, but still simplistic drum beat presents itself and you hear the ending of the piece, which is the two main melodies playing in an intertwined way. Using the same synths, during the piece, you will hear small and shortened patterns of the same melodies that keep the listener interested. The overall goal of this piece was to provide a sense of ambience and a simple, but catchy melody.
