Happy 4/20

Finally recorded this one after a few months of tweaking every single sound and effect to oblivion, I think it's about cooked or I am at least.  Heavy use of the new Virus TI and Chroma Console and a lot of SY-77 as well.  The Erica Synths Acid Box III really sounds so great on drums, as well as the OTO BAM for creating unusual spaces.  I'm also really happy with the groovy lazy bass sound from the 2600 that kinda oozes in and out.

It has 4 movements to it so skip around a bit if you don't like one part though I hope you don't but I realize it's quite long, it's meant to just space out to or played very loud.  

As usual it's recorded live straight from the outputs of the Analog Heat which is fed by the Mackie mixer, it's sequenced entirely by the Circuit, Model Samples, SQ-64, 1010 Black Box and Squarp Pyramid.  However, this one has absolutely no post processing done!  I wasn't sure about it, but I really like the way it sounds now, I may master it in the future though.

Back to 4/4 for a nice bit of slow banging acid trance, this one just kind of fell together in such a good way I didn't want to mess with it any more.   I did a lot of work with the Pittsburgh Modular Lifeforms SV-1b and Dreadbox Erebus 3 with this, these two little boxes are capable of so much.  The drums are all programmed from the Blackbox, Circuit Tracks and Model Samples and thrown through an Erica Synths Acid Box 3 and an FMR RNC then to an OTO BAM, really a nice chain for some massive drums.  Overall finding the strengths in every bit of my kit.  My SY-77 died but fortunately I was able to pick up a TG-77 for a decent price so it's back and I missed it a lot.  The bass sound in most of the track is from a Virus TI but changes to the DSI Evolver about 2/3 way through.

05052024 - Underground on Proxima B (Live Hardware PA)

Recorded live 06/14/2024 direct from mixer to Adobe Audition 2 track stereo mix.

I discovered some phase problems in my Antelope Audio interface so I tried recording direct from the Elektron Analog Heat and it was way fuller, so this has effected all of my recording up until now unfortunately and due to the nature of them it'll be almost impossible to re-record them as I'd have to re-create all the patches and remember where I stored all the various patterns, such is my workflow lol.  Anyways this one sounds absolutely massive now that that's solved.  I started off doing an ambient jungle tune and then tried slowing it down about 70bpm, I didn't change anything I just turned the tempo knob on the SQ-64 which everything else is slaved to and it worked beautifully, I might even like the downtempo part more.  Anyways, it's been a journey for this one as I have been fighting with some serious depression, but it helps to make something that you can be proud of and that I have done a lot of progression this year as far as sound design and mixing.

The general idea of the track is the feeling of loneliness, alienation, interfacing with the strange.

Kind of prismatic tribal techno I guess, I had some fun with different scales and using the Alexander Marshmallow pedal makes some beautiful pads.  I tried to keep it moving along and I think it never gets too stale but I guess I'm partial lol.

Working on this about 2 months now, the Moog Labyrinth added a nice shifting snare/tom like pattern and rounded out the rhythm a bit.  I think I have enough gear now to cover a lot of different parts so I can move between them..  of course this setup isn't really feasible for live performance anywhere else as it would be a nightmare to move but it's fun here. This is the first take of a previous upload, I had recorded this one but then decided I wanted to shoot a video to go with it, so I did another take with the video and that ended up being the one I went with.  After a further listen I decided it was worth an upload too, so I did a little mastering with the excellent Newfangled Audio plugins, otherwise all the same info applies to this one, it was recorded the same day and in the same way.

This started as something else entirely different almost a year ago, I was in a totally different place then too. Better or worse I couldn't tell you right now, mentally I'm pretty wiped out so I'm just glad to get this down and move on to the next thing already. That said I'm happy with how it did turn out.
