This is very rare, digitized version of Aphex Twin's set at Furthur from 1994. The promoters of the party did not record this -- it was provided to me by a 3rd party / fan on cassette tape and was digitized from that.

This is Side B of a very rare, digitized version of Aphex Twin's set at Furthur from 1994 (Wisconsin). Unfortunately, I received it on cassette tape, so the quality wasn't perfect. In addition, when I digitized it, I noticed a large gap of silence around the 12 minute mark (not sure what happened there), so I faded the mix out, deleted the silence, and faded it back in.

Recorded live 06/14/2024 direct from mixer to Adobe Audition 2 track stereo mix.

I discovered some phase problems in my Antelope Audio interface so I tried recording direct from the Elektron Analog Heat and it was way fuller, so this has effected all of my recording up until now unfortunately and due to the nature of them it'll be almost impossible to re-record them as I'd have to re-create all the patches and remember where I stored all the various patterns, such is my workflow lol.  Anyways this one sounds absolutely massive now that that's solved.  I started off doing an ambient jungle tune and then tried slowing it down about 70bpm, I didn't change anything I just turned the tempo knob on the SQ-64 which everything else is slaved to and it worked beautifully, I might even like the downtempo part more.  Anyways, it's been a journey for this one as I have been fighting with some serious depression, but it helps to make something that you can be proud of and that I have done a lot of progression this year as far as sound design and mixing.

The general idea of the track is the feeling of loneliness, alienation, interfacing with the strange.

Kind of prismatic tribal techno I guess, I had some fun with different scales and using the Alexander Marshmallow pedal makes some beautiful pads.  I tried to keep it moving along and I think it never gets too stale but I guess I'm partial lol.

Working on this about 2 months now, the Moog Labyrinth added a nice shifting snare/tom like pattern and rounded out the rhythm a bit.  I think I have enough gear now to cover a lot of different parts so I can move between them..  of course this setup isn't really feasible for live performance anywhere else as it would be a nightmare to move but it's fun here.  Hope you enjoy the vibes.

Here it is.  The live recording from my all vinyl acid set at Even Furthur.  It's been over 10 years since I've played on turntables.  Some rough spots here n there but overall I'm happy how it turned out.  The set wasnt planned and I tried to speed mix to get in as many records as possible.   I forgot how much focus and concentration it took.  I forgot the feeling of satisfaction when I did nail a mix and heard the people respond.  It was exhilarating!  Mixing vinyl from the 90s is tricky but those challenges are what makes it so much fun.  

  Even Furthur brought back all those wonderful memories and emotions.  There was no better event in the US to have played those records.  And speaking of the records, many I selected were the ones I heard on Terry Mullan mixtapes.  TBH, this set was equally a tribute to Terry as much as it was to the glory days.  Terry was my biggest influence as a DJ and his mixtapes were my bible.
