Inspired by a collection of poems by Constance Hunting, the spirit of this mix series is to ask each artist to share, in some form, a distinct memory they hold in their minds, and express that memory over the arc of a mix and an associated written piece. This can be interpreted however one feels best suits their vision - whether it be a selection that evokes or reminds you of that central time / place / person, or a weaving of sounds that reflects the narrative of the feeling in that memory, or anything in between.The idea is to see memory as a breathing, living being, one that influences your feelings and sense of self.

"This mix is a validation note to my former self who was in the middle of a grief-stricken period of not being able to sleep. I had only slept a couple hours over the course of 3 days because of a traumatic experience I was living through at the time. I desperately needed to put my strung out mind to rest. In that time, I battled with undulating waves of tension and relief. Cycles of gently soothing myself only to find out hours have passed with no solace and then moving to self-destructive frustration.  

The shape of my memory is not uniform. It is raw. It is soft & comforting. It is sharp & painful. This mix captures the agonizing pattern of tension & self-soothing through experimental and ambient leaning sounds. I hope you open yourself up to all types of feeling as you listen.

Fragmentation and Union on the Search for Utopia


It is not Utopia that we strive for. It is not reaching a “destination”, as Utopia is no place. It is the search for Utopia. Upon the water, the boat floats. We are in charge of the sails, and we decide which direction we move toward. On this journey, no one said it would be easy. Choppy waters and going forward into the unknown darkness of night. Yet, the stars shine, as does the moon. And from above, there is light. And when hours pass and the sunlight breaks, it simply illuminates. Simultaneously this light casts shadows on the placid watery plane. We need both on this search ~ both night and day. Symbiosis leads to quantum leaps. On this search for no place, memories arise, and with them we move ahead in awareness. Memories fragmented and fractal, morphing and merging and changing with the tides. They gather along the way into a collection of dark and shiny pieces of us. Some we choose to keep. Some we choose to free. We honor them all, for without them we would not be here, right now. On the boat. On this search. Shaping new memories as we float. The Utopian heartbeat thumps to the rhythm of just one sound. Do you hear it? Love is calling.

"somewhere over the rainbow, there is a place we can go to do magic. it’s a land of abundance where we tranifest our dreams—yet we bring our nightmares with us. in loopy quests for healing, power, and pussy, we tromp up and down a steep mountainside bearing amulets, wands, and shields. on moonlit nights, shadows reach out from our wakes, but vanish as soon as we turn around to look. 



this mix is inspired by a night on that land, taking refuge from a storm and wayward psychic energies with three queer children in a bathhouse. we fed logs to the stove in a wood-fired sauna as outside, muffled thunder seeped from clouds sparkling with electricity. i felt myself channeling Hera, adopting Zeus’s ephebes—young, effeminate cupbearers. one carried water, the other a staff, and the third was keeper of the Pan flute, an eternally hitting vape; the gift that keeps us living. 



staying lifted, surfing currents of our whims, we fanned the flames of a bonfire outside that persisted to spite the rain, until one of the children whispered “hold me,” or rather demanded “cuddle puddle.” we traipsed up to the cabin, where with beaver-like instincts, i heaped blankets and pillows on the wood floor to make a dam that held back time. the kids nuzzled in purring satisfaction. an oil lamp on the hearth illuminated offerings of tinctures, balms, and spiked Mountain Dew. i puffed the vape while i scratched the kids’ backs, admiring the sacredness of youth. 



for those few hours we were all nineteen, re-writing our stories with chosen family and striving to not re-inscribe the wounds inflicted by our blood. we needed to not give a fuck about anything except blowing on each other’s simmering coals. both dreams and nightmares can keep one from sleep; i know this from experience. so nothing could sate me like watching chests rise and fall in slow rhythms, as each of Hera’s children faded into gentle sleep.

"This mix is a love letter to the emotion-driven, vulnerable, and melancholy side of my sound -- one I have not tapped into for quite some time-- in the form of weightless jungle and ambient. Through the process of creating this mix, I wished to reconnect with myself as an artist at this moment without the influence of a dance-floor, tuning into the self-reflective spirit of the winter."

The Bay Area dance music scene formed Eugenia's roots as a DJ, where she cut her teeth playing underground clubs and organizing DIY raves. Her energetic mixing style can be defined as bright, tender, and highly dynamic, jumping across many genres of dance music wrapped in a lush atmosphere -- always with her signature touch of sass. While Eugenia grew up between the Bay Area and northern Italy, she is currently based in Boston where she plays with local queer collective Enter the Boudoir. Fresh from her sets at HOR Berlin, Fast at Work in Los Angeles, Boiler Room in Boston, and Sound Gymnastics in Brooklyn, she continues to blossom further and curate her own sound. 

Outside of performing, Eugenia is a practicing poet and host of a genre-non conforming, ambient-inspired mix series called "The Shape of Memory," as a part of experimental label Ghunghru, where she asks each artist to express a memory through the arc of a mix. The spirit of this series is to re-imagine memory as a breathing, living being, one that influences our feelings and sense of self.

One of the driving forces behind one of NYC’s sickest underground parties - Recess, Eugenia is truly a head and this mix is a testament to that.

this mix is named after by my favorite collection of poems by louise gluck, a copy of which was gifted to me by my poetry mentor who guided me in my early years writing. The title refers to an early collection of Dante, detailing his love for his eternal muse, Beatrice. In italian, “Vita nova” means new life. 

a few weeks ago my copy of Vita Nova was lost in a electrical fire in my bedroom along many of my most treasured items, books, and letters  - these things i have taken with me through every move, no matter how temporary. yet, as i searched through the rubble, i found that a couple of my most delicate things survived. i feel there must be some symbolism to this. 

since then, i’ve been reflecting on the bittersweetness of renewal and regeneration, of creating space to mourn what was lost - and of finding beauty in the knowledge that each of these material things are connected to individuals and experiences i treasure. 

this mix is filled with tracks i adore, many of which i have been coming back to over the last couple years, or have been shown to me by people i love. it is a live recording from when i played after the brilliant Sybil @syberkid in montreal this past winter. It’s a little rough around the edges — but as always, comes straight from the heart.

Episode 002 of PLOT MIX is now up on the cloud. This time with NYC based @eugeniadj. You can expect a wistful and dusky mix radiating opalescent energies. The Bay Area DIY scene nourished Eugenia’s roots as an artist from her early 20s, where she began to develop a dynamic sound marked with a shimmering, heart-forward touch. Her sets are reflective and textural, soaring across genres and energy levels with a whimsical twist, threaded by a consistent minimalistic groove. Upon moving to NYC, she began co-heading queer, psy-forward DIY day-rave RECESS, through which she continued to hone her musical voice and vision as an organizer. Eugenia hosts The Shape of Memory, an experimental mix series inviting artists to transmute core memories into music, re-imagining memory as a living, breathing being which influences our emotions and sense of self.

In this episode, I reflect a moment I had last summer, late August. I was sitting with a new friend, up on a raised wooden platform late at night, the second day of Waking Life. We had talked at length, having just begun to understand the ebbs and flows of each other’s minds. I told them that lately I had been holding onto moments of unresolved conflict, of goodbyes that felt rushed, or pains of others I was unable to heal. I was carrying the weight of these small, broken up moments which had accumulated over time.

A thick, dreamlike fog rolled in front of us, as we sat, holding each other tightly, It suddenly parted, revealing the outlines of graceful figures moving towards us in the distance. This vision coincided with a moment of precise clarity: I noticed my idealistic need for harmony in every moment; at the influx of this realization, I began to accept and lean into the dissonance that repeats itself, in spite of this desire. I tried to forgive myself for the lack of closure of past connections, the loose ends.

I realize I felt this because I deeply cared about each moment, and this is natural, human, and essential to who I am. The anxiety and subtle shards of pain I had been clutching in my chest for so long burst out of me, leaving me transparent, spacious, and light. I was filled with gratitude to have had the possibility to be heard, and seen, in this realization, by a person who I felt intrinsically understood me.

In this first transmission, I wished to guide listeners through a moment I experienced in which a long-existing emotional weight left me, feeling swept away by the space around me. Through this, the previously hazy details of my inner self came into my field of vision.

Try to catch yourself if & when you censor yourself, because you may be blocking something powerful and genuine within -- your voice may take on unexpected forms. Stay close to people who inspire you, keep you curious, and help you shine, and for whom you can do the same. Don’t be afraid to reach out and learn from others you admire. Advocate for yourself -- and never let boys (or anyone) reach over and try to fix your mixes while you’re playing.

The sound of distant drumming,
of laughter, even the cawing
of gulls  exist because of sunshine.

The boat, shaped like a gondola, glides past.
A man is singing with abandon, 
the glass office buildings
sharply reflecting behind him,
harsh ambulance sounds echoing
