We are kicking off 2022 with a special 2hr episode on the MindTrip Podcast by Slight Function. The duo introduced itself to our MindTrip world last month with their track ‘Mistaken Identity’ released on Mutable Minds V compilation. Slight Function was created in 2020 and is a completely new project between the German Krenzlin and the Argentinian Rhombic. Their debut release came out as 12" vinyl at 770-output on February 2021 and their sound can be identified as dark, straight, raw techno. A scientist by day and a DJ by night, Polish-born and Edinburgh-based ona:v began DJing in Edinburgh clubs in 2019. With distinctive taste for fast-paced and energetic tracks, she packs her DJ mixes with high-energy electro and techno. She is an advocate for female representation in the electronic music industry and believes the best way to increase the proportion of women in the electronic music world is platforming. Her mixes always feature tracks by amazing female producers. To further promote women DJs, she founded EPiKA with @ktk_dj. The aim of EPiKA is to promote women playing heavier flavors of electronic music through organising a series of female-led nights in Edinburgh and to create a welcoming and supportive environment for beginner female DJs.

Lindsey Wang, the mind behind Polygonia, is a versatile musician and artist based in Munich, Germany. A long time before her electronic music journey began, she explored the realms of several acoustic instruments intensively. This skill combined with studies of various other art forms, inspired the artist to translate her understanding of rhythm, composition, and experimentalism into the digital music language. Her sound identity is driven by a mystic, deep and organic character which is enriched with acoustic elements, built into the genres of deep techno, downtempo and ambient. 

Together with Dycide and MTRL she founded the ambient and deep techno label IO. She also co-curates the podcast channel Hadal Resonance. In addition, the artist works as an interactive sound designer at the company Impulse Audio Lab.

[BIO]:
French artist from Montpellier. Klint's project started in 2021 and was already released by respected labels as Modularz or Planet Rhythm. 2022 promises to be a good year with a 12" release already planned on Planet Rhythm and 2 EP collab with Falling Echoes and Linear System. He has been involved in electronic music from an early age, and his first productions under a different alias appeared 14 years ago. He has always been looking for various solutions in music, because according to Klint - "music, apart from its uniqueness, must also contain a multi-genre and be oriented towards the listener and the dance floor". When presenting techno to his audience, he never focuses on one genre, and looks for inspiration among various underground sounds, as well as rock music. Both his live sets and subsequent produced tracks contain his musical soul, and he always looks for answers to his artistic quality in contact with the audience. For Klint, this element is a very important and integral part of building his own development.

Class 1990, Viels was born in a little city outside Milan (Italy). Early in his adolescence he discovered techno culture inspired by a book called “TECHNO“ by Christian Zingales. 

Having released his first Ep on Initial Berlin in 2015, Viels continued his musical path appearing with a track on the well respected dutch imprint Dynamic Reflection, followed by his debut ep “Distrophism” and contributing for the 10 years anniversary of the label, among some of the most recognised artists in the scene : Donato Dozzy, Mike Parker, Shifted, Oscar Mulero, Blawan, Ness, Jeroen Search and many more. 

Co-owner with Francesco della Sala of “End Of Perception”, Viels just released on label such Non Series and Semantica Records and it will appear soon again on Dynamic Reflection and debuting on Edit Select.

With an increasing interest and having performed in quality line-ups around the globe, with the likes of The Gods Planet, Svreca and Dasha Rush to name a few, Viels is establishing himself as part of a new wave of djs and producers approaching the contemporary techno scene.

Collective Thoughts Part 2: Deep into Winter

The next chapter in my podcast series comes from the Italian DJ, producer and label owner Andrea Deplano, also known as @ness. 

Coming from Sardinia, Italy, Ness has become a respected figure in the electronic music scene, especially when talking about hypnotic techno. With a background in sound engineering, research, fine-tuning and over a decade of experience as a producer and DJ, Andrea has crafted a signature sound that influenced an entire generation in music. 

His productions and sets are typically defined as a wide range of exploration between hypnotic techno and ambient soundscapes. As of recently, the Italian producer decided to expand that scope even more, by creating the trance-influenced alias L-3P, under which he will be releasing music with a higher bpm, which only shows that he is constantly evolving and challenging his presence in music.

Next to playing around the globe, Ness has been running successfully his label The Gods Planet, which is a home to many established talents as well as newcomers with fresh ideas. The constantly evolving concept of the label unfolds fully in an in-depth article on the blog.

Da mein Xone 92 derzeit eingeschickt zur Reparatur und die spontanität des Events ist dieses Set wirklich eine besondere Zusammenstellung....

Einflüsse aus dem Urlaub in Barcelona sind zu hören, unter anderem DJ techniken von den Meistern aus den Bergen vom Parallel Festival habe ich versucht anzuwenden.

Really a rapid change from start of the set with 140bpm to 130bpm....

Since my Xone 92 is currently sent in for repair and the spontaneity of the event, this set is really a special compilation....

Influences from the vacation in Barcelona are to be heard, among other things DJ techniques of the masters from the mountains of the Parallel Festival I tried to apply.
