I would have enjoyed this either way, with or without the preface, but I especially loved reading the purpose behind it. Really awesome.

I was learning some new-to-me techniques and thought I'd experiment with samples for a potential live set in between the band-based sets.  All samples are royalty free sounds via Loopmasters.

Song-a-week #11 - Prompt: "Break a Leg"

I wrote this after a conversation with my friend Grace, talking about an experience she had years back when she was abandoned by her pianist on stage; I also heard her get up and powerfully sing a new song to move past her grief from the loss of her husband. This is what came together after all that.

关云长　Guan Yun Chang（？～２２０）

Guan Yun Chang was a Chinese figure from about 1,800 years ago.

He is a popular figure in the Records of the Three Kingdoms, and for some reason is now worshipped as a god of commerce.

He remained loyal to Liu Bei, the founder of Shu Han, and was admired by many of his contemporaries, including Cao Cao, for his extraordinary bravery and sense of duty.

Among the military commanders appearing in "Epic of the Three Kingdoms," he was as popular as Zhuge Liang, and because he valued righteousness, later generations deified him and designated him as the Guan Di (Guan Emperor).

He is worshiped as the god of business in Chinatowns around the world. He is given special treatment in "Epic of the Three Kingdoms" and is described as Kwan Gong rather than Guan Yu.

Song a week #17 - Two prompts: Coming-of-age, and "Duck and Cover"

I read a story of this situation from the father's perspective, talking to his hospice worker. I thought that I would try to tell the story from the son's perspective. 

Here's the article - but don't read it until after you hear the song, please, so you can follow the story in chronological order through the song, instead of hearing about the ending first!

The dad's first name is Tank, and his son is Little Tank, which is why that is the song title, even though I don't mention his name in the song.

My wife played it at a family gathering over the weekend and everyone was moved by it.

You really caught the way the rough challenge of Tank's life blended with the spiritual power of a larger world beyond our earthly vision.
