This song is John Mayall's tribute to a blues history giant living in Hollywood's Laurel Canyon many years ago. Bob Hite had an enormous collection of 78rpm blues artists "goin' back through the years, hear any record you choose".

I've been singing this song in public for many years without knowing Bob Hite (The Bear) "rolled" his last in 1981. Mea culpa.

The repertoire of Canned Heat and John Mayall has been a constant reference throughout my musical life.

„When the observer's shadow falls on a layer of fog or clouds, the shadow is not represented by a solid surface, but by each drop of water in the haze individually. As a result, the brain cannot see the shadow stereoscopically and significantly overestimates the size. Air movements cause the shadow to move, even when the observer is standing still. This seemingly separate entity can also float and hover without having any visible contact with the ground. The Unicorn in Captivity is a new piece that filled my spirit whilst viewing the massive and breathtaking medieval tapestry of the same name at the Met Cloisters in New York City. The tapestry is dated to circa 1495-1505 and is originally from the Netherlands. I have always been deeply in love and wholly fascinated with all things medieval, and this music is a direct product of this. The tapestry in person is quite esoteric and seems to radiate an ethereal and mystical energy. I almost felt as if I lost consciousness briefly whilst feasting upon it... or perhaps it simply transported me to a different time and place. In this new musical work, I have simply given the themes and harmonies that flowed through my heart that day as I first met the tapestry known as, "The Unicorn in Captivity..." In a way, I suppose a piece of my soul will always be linked with this ancient work of art now... I hope you all enjoy this music and its unique mystical beauty. This version is done on a synthesiser. I feel that the timbre of the synth truly brings out beautiful colours in this work. Finally, I ask you all... what do you see? What does my music make you feel???

Hanna Ryynänen is an expressive kantele artist and composer from Finland. In her hands can be heard a wide range of kantele, from the small 5-string kantele to the 39-string concert kantele. Of all these, the Saarijärvi kantele’s rich tones and inspiring techniques are especially close to Hanna’s heart. Improvisation also has an important role in Hanna’s artistic work where she loves to seek new sounds and ways of playing.
