Episode 74 sees Funkier Radio moving to a brand new home! It was all a bit last minute, but I made it - this was the first episode of Funkier Radio to broadcast live on NDC Radio. I’m absolutely over the moon to join the NDC gang, this station has become the de facto home of The Disco Waltons, and their support over the last year or so has been absolutely amazing. I’ve already appeared on the station several times as part of The Disco Waltons Sunday Service, but this was my first time going live, and I loved it! 

Might be a new home, but it’s the same winning formula - funky cuts from across the decades, genres and BPMs. Started things off with a couple of oldies, crammed in a bit of reinterpreted P-Funk, some wonky funky business, jackin house, a couple of new bits from me and even some Whitney. 

For this fortnight’s guest mix it was my pleasure to hand over to Nathan Simpson for an uplifting hour of the very best house and disco. Nathan is the brains behind Daydream Disco, home of a long running mix series which I highly recommend you check out! He’s also recently restarted his brilliant Soul Searching Sunday show, this time on Unmade Radio.

Iry Sabir is a Yorkshire based DJ who has been around the scene for over 20 years. He started to play in 2002 until 2008 & then put things on hold to raise his family. It wasn't until 2019 where he started to pick things back up & he's slowly built up his reputation with a number of mixes ranging from Soulful House, Nu Disco, Groove, Funk, Lounge & New Retro Wave. He's done a number of Guest Mixes such as Black Light Disco, Magic Track, Discotheque, HAWT, Feel Good Fridays & Disco Waltons. He's now one of the hosts for the Disco Waltons & also his Monthly show Bearded Lounge Sunday Sessions on NDC has been going strong.

Hailing from Aberdeen but now living in Edinburgh, Ewan's love of music started from an early age when he started to listen to soul, funk and disco.  In 1993, Ewan started listening to Pete Tong's Essential Selection and Essential Mix shows and his love of house music started.

A pair of belt drive turntables and basic mixer were purchased shortly afterwards and Ewan started DJing at house parties and birthday parties while at University.  The belt drives were upgraded to 1210s which he still owns and Ewan continued to play at local parties, gigs and events. 

30 years on Ewan still likes to collect a broad range of disco and soulful house-music although the tempo has moderated over the years.  He makes regular recordings to share with like-minded music fans and has featured on the Even Funkier radio show, the Disco Waltons show on NDC Radio and Diamond Radio. He references Graeme Park (fellow Aberdeen fan), MAW, Dave Lee, Norman Jay, Dimitri from Paris and Frankie Knuckles as major influencers .
