From the new album - 'Sound Postcards from the Centre of the Periphery' by Manja Ristić and Mark Vernon.

We made this 13-track journey around the sounds and sonic histories of the island of Korčula. In addition to our own field recordings, we were given access to the audio archives of the local radio station, including recordings of folk customs, traditional songs, dances and music...

This album unites two specific sensibilities that for many years have been embedded in the domain of sound and radio arts. Although they arose from very different environments, their work explores similar issues around preserving personal sonic histories. By stirring up nostalgia and collective memory, both artists often refer to the importance of individual experiences in the poetic "body" of micro-communities.

The artistic practice of both creators has been deeply immersed in the sonic strata of space and the imaginary narratives that emerge from it. A dedication to the culture of memory, the sounding of lost voices and an unorthodox approach to re-composing the soundscape, conveniently unites these two experimenters in a collaboration that arises from research into one particularly inspiring locality – the island of Korčula.

In addition to their own field recordings the artists were given access to the audio archives of the local radio station, including sounds of local folk customs, traditional songs, festivities and music. The strong anthropological emphasis in this collection of works is intended to encourage a deeper consideration of the coexistence of people and the environment in a historically dense climate. The appropriation of the hidden narratives of a small town on the fringes of the European Union opens up new fields of reflection on identity that looks back at the "center of the periphery", pointing to the importance of "small" spaces in the creation of European heritage.

‘Sound postcards from the center of the periphery’ will be stored permanently in the audio archives of Radio Korčula. Who knows, maybe someone will dig them out in 50 years and say: "...there you go! This will make your head ring!"

Mélodie Blaison is a French artist currently based in Brussels. Her work is a space for experimentation, combining modular sculptures, immersive installations and sound objects.

Mélodie Blaison - Pluie + Pluie

Eventless Plot borrows elements from different genres and aesthetics to build their own hybrid of sound. Formed in Thessaloniki in 2002 by Vasilis Liolios, Aris Giatas and Yiannis Tsirikoglou, the trio exhibits great attention to sonic details expressed in different forms of experimentalism. From free impro and noise to new electronica, electroacoustic composition and jazz, their music remains always unconventional and contemporary. They use a variety of instruments, analog sources, field recordings and Max/MSP patches. Eventless plot often collaborate with Chris Cundy (bass clarinet), Angelica Vasquez Salvi (harp) and Stefanos Lazaristos (bass saxophone).

Eventless plot have several releases in their archive including “ikon” (Granny records 2009), “Recon” (Aural terrains 2012), “Points of attraction” (Another timbre 2013), “Structures” (Creative sources 2014) and “Killing Realism” (Granny records 2015). Moreover, the trio has performed live in different cities such as Bologne, Milan (O gallery), Thessaloniki, Porto (Sonoscopia), Coimbra (Salao Brazil), Skopje (Swiss music days festival), Den Haag (Studio Loos), Athens (Synch festival).

Eventless Plot are also working on designing sound and composing for art installations, films and dance projects. In November 2008, they joined Thessalonikiʼs International Film Festival along with Granny records label mates Good Luck Mr. Gorsky by composing and introducing a soundtrack for Victor Sjostrom' s “Phantom Carriage”. In 2009, they composed music for the short film“Ceremony 273.749” which won the first prize in ArtWave Athens Festival, while in 2015, they presented the “Time | Tone” project, an electroacoustic composition based on graphic score along with the dancers Dafni Stefanou, Loukiani Papadaki, Eddie Lame and Mina Ananiadou.
