LIVE yurt set @ Ever Afters Campout (3/24/2023)

With this mix for the Ever Afters 2023 campout, I wanted to help set the stage (literally) for the lineup that Envelope booked for the Yurt. This took three forms: lesbian soundsystem music to establish dancing in that room as a norm (prog); dark and percussive and carnal tracks to open the gates for wider tempos and sonic palettes (dnb); and experimentally-focused pieces to acknowledge the history of the Yurt as a site of primarily ambient casting (experimental ambient). It works best I think if you imagine yourself in the depths of the California midlands, huddled under swerving UFO lights as the hours from 3-5am careen by 🖤

Faited @ Ever Afters 2023

Sobolik is a Brooklyn-based artist whose work as a producer, DJ, promoter and label curator seeks to open dialogues across cultures and practices of modern club music. Co-heading the London label All Centre alongside Simkin and DJ Pitch, Sobolik has been turning heads with futuristic club cuts on labels such as 3024, CloudCore, Woozy, and early reflex. Sobolik's world is filled with colour and hyperkinetic energy - not fitting in one box, their output reacts to a broad palate of styles across North American and UK club music traditions. In February, they released their third EP, entitled Packet Loss, in a debut collaboration with Kindergarten Records, joining modern bass scene luminaries like Ayesha, Sha Ru, and Stolen Velour at Brooklyn’s preeminent home of chaotic, forward-thinking digital percussion tracks.

"This mix is a live recording of my set at the inaugural Ever Afters Campout held in Saratoga, CA—a 3-day queer rave started in the wake of the legendary Gays Hate Techno retreat. I got to play on a custom soundsystem built by my friend Faited and the Envelope crew, a transfemme collective who throw renegades in the Bay Area. At Ever Afters, I was reminded of the importance of DIY and queer autonomy. I experienced mutual care, intentionality, hard work, interdisciplinary collaboration, queer joy, and real rave energy. For my set, I wanted to continue my exploration of the outer zones in club music tempo, slowing down from 98bpm into half-time 180 territory. I was so honored to play for such an engaged crowd who were down to follow all of the peaks and valleys. The first 30 minutes of the set remain between me and the dancers, and the rest is archived here in its original form."

Many lightyears away, a faint signal is received by an unknown entity.  As the transmission took thousands of years to arrive at the distant galaxy, it is now a distorted recollection of the final moments of humanity as a species.  While the purpose and origin of the signal is unclear, it paints a picture of the horrors of the end of a civilization.

For Adam 2, electronic music has always provided an opportunity for self-discovery, creative exploration, and personal liberation. Since 2016, the Vancouver-based producer and DJ has worn multiple hats in the city’s growing scene, fulfilling the roles of promoter, music curator, and co-founder of Techno label PPRZ.  2020 saw the release of featured mixes on Honcho, Techno Hour of Power, and the creation of Afrofuturism is Now – a mix series amplifying the music of Black artists. In 2022/23 Adam 2 maintained their stride sharing the bill with Carlos Souffront, Shanti Celeste, and Objekt, had high profile performances at Basscoast and Domesicle in Montreal and recently released their debut EP ‘Jungle Dreams’ on Toronto based label Model Future.  As Adam 2’s career gains momentum, they continue to build their reputation by transfixing audiences with evocative, experimental techno that intersects dynamic physicality and playful cerebralism.
