Brad Shit - Casbah Breakdown

Much as I love the Creative Source version of this track, it's the Bill Withers original that rocks me most. As ever the edit's something I've primarily put together for my forthcoming sets, but that may see a limited release some time in the future.

Who Is He & What Is He To You (Leftside Wobble Edit)

Patti Jo to my knowledge only made two tracks but oh what tracks they were. Both were written and produced by Curtis Mayfield and have been staples in my sets for many years. 'Make Me Believe In You' is the better known of the two (the Tom Moulton mix is one of his finest) but Ain't No Love Lost, released the year before in 1972 is just as strong and if anything has even better arrangements. Can't believe it's taken me this long to give it a LW re-spin! As ever this may see the light of day over the summer as a limited release but has mainly been put together for my forthcoming sets.

This Friday I'm playing a set in sync with the setting sun at Vintage festival on the 5th floor of the Southbank Centre. The space includes a balcony overlooking the Thames so I thought it would be apt edit a couple of sweet soul gems for the event. 

I first became aware of Faded Lady through the Dusty Fingers series of albums (collections of original breaks and such like) but then last year BBE put it out on a 7" to help promote the  Strange Games 5 album. Such a sweet track but it's over before it's begun so a little extension seemed in order. 

I can't enable downloads directly on this one seeing as it was a recent release but for those who really want a copy leave a request in the comments.

Amsterdam dwelling editor par excellence Em Vee took the solo reigns on the inaugural Lumberjacks In Hell - and truly excelled with a great reimagination of "Miss You". The second release on the label sees the German share duties with Spanish edit demon Rayko, with the Rare Wiri boss hogging the A Side. First up is an expert rearrangement of Candi Staton's cover of the Bee Gee's standard "Nights On Broadway" which strips the track of its orchestral leanings to focus on the groove! Following this is a meaty take on a classic, with Barbara Keith's cover of "All Along The Watchtower" reinforced with some bottom end bump. Em Vee spreads a special disco version of Alma Lee's late 70s Philly delight "Gimme Your Love" with an extended intro that fully displays his edit talents.

Jimmy “Bo” Horne released the disco monster "Is It In?" in 1980 on T.K. Records. It made a huge impact in every dancefloor but sadly the anti-disco movement didn’t let the track rise on the charts and get the recognition it deserved. Nevertheless Larry Levan played it to death on Paradise Garage and so did all the respected DJs.
Later it was sampled by Jungle Brothers for their 1989 tune "Beyond this World" and in 2006 it was featured on Rockstar Games' Grand Theft Auto: Vice City Stories.

On this mix I infuse lots of sounds, beats, bass and voices to make it even more fun (if that's possible!) and I give u  a raw funky intro, a satisfying long twisted break and a manic outro. As Horne says it’s exciting to dance 'n' party but as the night’s getting late it’s also crucial to know that:
“When the last dance is over

Luv N’Haight presents Lost Soul; a comprehensive collection of material recorded by Geater Davis for the House Of Orange label. The name of the album is an accurate description of the life and career of the legendary blues and soul singer who passed away at age 38 while on the verge of breaking through.

Geater Davis’ career began in Texas but with the success of a few regional hits he was able to go to Shreveport and all throughout the South. He was always on the move looking for a better chance, keeping his career alive and the “big break” so many artists look for. Just weeks after moving to Dallas he suffered a heart attack and a few weeks later died from heart failure on the day he was supposed to record a session. Although he didn’t find the success he sought while he was alive, his legacy is secure as one of the finest blues-soul singers of the 1970’s.
