Team Magnitude BJJ and Conquest BJJ have combined forces to create EXCEL Jiu Jitsu MMA Academy. At EXCEL you have top notch instruction, quality training partners and the best in training and fitness.

At the EXCEL Training Facility not only will you learn the Ultimate Grappling art, Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, but you can cross-train in Muy Thai, MMA, Boxing, Take Downs, Yoga, and to tie it all together, you will have Strength and Conditioning Classes to excel your Combat needs! Private instruction and Private training are also available.

The EXCEL Jiu Jitsu Team is led by Michio Grubbs and Corey S. Bennin, both Black Belts in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and between the two; bring a wealth of knowledge, experience and a positive attitude to the Academy. They are backed by assistant head instructors Chang Hwang and Charlie Grant and a core of advanced students that also bring years of experience, inspiration, and maturity to the table.

The EXCEL Little Spartans program, open to the little ones as young as 4 and extending to the teens, is an extensive Kids Program that the young athletes can indulge. The variety of classes are spread throughout the week and are designed to bring fun, learning and character building to the student.

With over 30+ classes per week, the focus of the programs at EXCEL Jiu Jitsu MMA Academy are to provide students with the highest quality martial arts fitness instruction available in a safe positive learning environment that people of all ages can enjoy. Come train and EXCEL into Champions!

TEAM ENVIRONMENT

Students excel at a much faster pace in a team oriented environment. As a team, we put in the extra effort to insure that each student gets the most out of each training session. We are constantly looking after one another because we know; ultimately, you are only as good as your training partners. There is a heavy emphasis on helping your teammates improve because as they get better, you get better. When you train at EXCEL, the strong sense of unity will take you to the next level.
INSTRUCTION

Brazilian Jiu Jitsu is a very technical art and is designed to make your grappling more effective and more efficient. We put a lot into each technique and then put the techniques together into a flowing pattern which will allow you, the user, to express yourself fully. Jiu Jitsu is based on leverage so you will learn positioning, angles, timing, and pressure. It's the details that make the techniques come to life. At EXCEL, we take a lot of pride with our grappling skills and along with what you bring to the table, you are sure to excel!
GI/ NO-GI

A Jiu Jitsu practitioner that relies too much on cloth grabbing to perform their techniques is in for a rude awakening when the gi comes off. Sad to say, but their Jiu Jitsu goes out the window. Or likewise, once the submission wrestler puts the gi on, he will feel a restriction in movement and will be choked repeatedly if he is not familiar with lapel chokes a long with all the handles the gi provides. To make sure our students are well versed in both styles, we split time and train both aspects equally. Both styles are Brazilian Jiu Jitsu but require different strategies along with different grips and holds. We would like the students at EXCEL to be considered complete grapplers; we start with standing grappling to the ground and finish in both styles.
FITNESS

Your conditioning is key and fundamental to making your Jiu Jitsu work. From the beginning of class to the end, we keep at a brisk pace but take frequent breaks. This way there is not a lot of idle time and you are constantly engaged mentally and physically. If you are not in shape when you start with us, we will encourage you to take everything at a slower pace and then gradually build up. It might come as a surprise on how quickly your fitness levels will rise. It is not uncommon for us to take people that are completely out of shape and help turn them into Jiu Jitsu beasts! We also encourage living the Jiu Jitsu lifestyle of solid nutrition, taking care of your fitness, and taking care of your health.
CHARACTER BUILIDING

Character starts from the inside out and begins with attitude. Look forward to your training and expect good things and with time your training will build you up. No matter how hard training or life gets, stay positive. Strive to do better and to do more. You will notice over time the steady improvements that come from consistent, disciplined practice. You will gain confidence with improved performance and that is what training is all about, constant improvement. You will meet some of the nicest, friendliest people at EXCEL, not to mention their mad Jiu Jitsu skills.
WHAT WE EXPECT FROM OUR STUDENTS

In order for us to excel as a team, we must learn how to "give" to one another. Giving is sharing what you know with a team mate. Help build them up in the world of Jiu Jitsu by guiding them and working with them. To help build their confidence in grappling by encouraging them to continue trying and not giving up. Jiu Jitsu takes time to learn and in that time you have to pay your dues. You will find yourself " taping" a lot and that is not a bad thing in training because if you ask "why did I tap and how can I prevent this from happening again" you will learn from it. We want our team to spend at least 80% of your training time in "learning mode" where you are at a much slower pace of grappling when you spar. Exchanging techniques and positions with your training partner, you will gain a much deeper understanding of the art. In the world of competition, 99% of the time you are "taking" where you don't give your opponent an inch. It is also important to train this aspect but we try to keep it to 20% of your sparring time.

What to expect on your first day of class

From beginning to end, the classes are full of energy and from the first moment you step on the mat you can feel the Team Atmosphere. Although this is an individual sport, it takes a team to help improve the skills, confidence, and toughness that is needed to enjoy the sport. We all share the common theme of constant improvement, so we are all here to share what we know, to give and take advice, to help one another improve one's own game.

If you are brand new to grappling, we understand that for some it can be intimidating but don't worry, our advanced students will work, coach, and guide you through class. Our classes are invigorating and you will use muscles that you didn't even know you had. The key is to pace yourself, do what you can do and soon, you will find yourself in the grove with the rest of the class and on your way to being a very good grappler.

Please come in with an open mind, patience and a willingness to learn. With this mind-set you will improve your skills at an incredible rate. You will have a checklist that goes through personal hygiene, gear that you may need, and to help you keep perspective in keeping the right attitude geared towards improving.

Checklist

    Clean, snug fitting clothes or clean gi.
    Well groomed fingernails and toenails.
    Wrestling shoes, cup, mouth piece, head gear are optional but recommended.
    Clean personal hygiene. -Any rashes or skin infections.
    Any rashes or skin infections are not permitted and must be made known to the instructor.
    Please bring a clean, extra shirt, towel and water bottle.
    Our classes are co-ed please act appropriately.
    No use of foul language or derogatory remarks.
