Sunday hush...silver tongues, gold-plated catechism,
Silent as algorithms strip rights with “patriotism.”
Paper-thin faith, thick wallets, sanctified nationalism,
Bibles on the briefing podium...weaponized catechism.
I watched ‘em audit mercy, tithe compassion to the throne,
Cross flipped to a logo, kingdom traded for a loan.
Gospel in the margins, greed engraved in letterhead,
Rights siphoned in the night, “amen” said to terror spread.
“They ain’t after me,” I rationalized my apathy,
Till liberty’s anatomy eroded into atrophy.
Pastors kissing Caesar’s ring, pledging fealty to Mammon,
Whip-of-cords conviction dulled to plush, compliant satin.
Tables never turned ‘cause I was seated, full and fed,
Feeding fear the Eucharist, faith famished, underfed.
Now the wolves wear wool and read Romans as a muzzle,
I kept quiet...silence inked my signature to the puzzle.

I stayed still while they boxed your voice,
Muted mine...now I’ve lost my choice.
First they came and I played it coy,
Now they bang on my door...no noise.
Too late...when the floor gave way,
Truth drowned in the flood I let them raise.
Regret’s a chain I forged each day,
Doing nothing till they came my way.

I scrolled past the cages, called justice “too divisive,”
Shared peace-sign platitudes, skipped stakes, stayed indecisive.
Pulpit morphed to podium...war slogans in a psalm,
“Blessed are the meek,” we said...then blessed the armored calm.
Be-atitudes as beatdowns, choked out under euphemism,
Liberty in litigations, love lost in legalism.
Micah inked in footnotes...do justice? I deferred it,
Walked humbly? I was comfy...truth hurt, I never heard it.
Neighbors flagged as “others,” wolves mapped ‘em as a threat,
I nodded from the bleachers, hands clean, conscience wet.
Christ flipped the tables; I kept my seat reserved,
Worship became worship of the power I preserved.
Least-of-these were bleeding, I called order “heaven’s plan,”
But heaven won’t endorse a throne that crushes out the man.
My silence made me chaplain to a tyrant’s little kingdom,
I regret the hollow hymns I sang instead of freedom.

Risk the halo, raise the table, let the poor and weary flourish.

Love’s law over law-and-order, tearing veils asunder.
