After four years of silence, instrumental metal standard bearers Pelican have come thundering back, with Forever Becoming, an eight-song album destined to be considered one of the most punishingly rewarding albums of the year. 

Before their hiatus, the group had laid a sizeable chunk of the groundwork for the instrumental metal scene that’s come into its own in the 13 years since they started playing together. After 2009 the band found itself slightly adrift, and found the day to day struggle of being full-time underground musicians colliding with new families and non-musical careers. Wisely, they didn’t make any rash decisions, and as suits a band known for making dense, meditative sounds they simply patiently figured out how to move past their obstacles.

This reborn Pelican is purer, more focused, and far more assured. Recorded at Electrical Audio in Chicago with engineer Chris Common, and featuring The Swan King guitarist Dallas Thomas (replacing the amicably departed Laurent Schroeder-Lebec) Forever Becoming is an immense, speaker-rattling meditation on the infinite cycle of death and life. It takes a lot of experience and a lot of confidence to attempt a head-on ascent of the biggest, most monolithic theme in art, but Forever Becoming is proof that Pelican has plenty of both, and knows how to wield them.


Muscle Beach Wrecking Crew is a group of 4 young men that had never met until one fateful evening. They were all aspiring body builders and were giving their first shot at a true body building competition. Unfortunately, their applications were turned down minutes before the competition was to start due to poor hygiene. As they walked out of the building with their heads hung low, they all happened to walk into each other at the same time while trying to exit through a revolving door. The revolving door was then jammed and they let their aggression out on each other physically in order to make up for the blow to their self esteem they had just endured. An ambulance was called to treat the wounds of the 4 young men who laid lifeless. One of the medics that was treating these 4 young men was a manager for a boy band as a hobby but that band was falling apart. He saw these 4 young men and he realized they all had characteristics that would suit a perfect band. He gave them all a morphine drip, not for their injuries but to talk them into starting the perfect band. Each member over dosed immediately but was revived shortly there after which only made for a better selling point for the band. They were assigned instruments and told to write songs with FLEX APPEAL.....Their first album will drop in the later part of 2013.

Can robots make music? Well, maybe. If they are programmed to. Can robot fearing humans make music? Well, maybe. If they practice and don’t get murdered by robots. “Something to do with Robots” is mostly the latter. It is the musical Rube Goldberg machine of NH native Dr. Gregory Prevost Esq with mates of musicianship Willhem VonSchoefmann, Admiral Matthew Hovis Riddle and Barclay Ellis Close the 42nd Duke of the Moon filling in wherever the great robotic overlord 100101101 finds pleasing. Indie rock with electronic influences ranging from lighter acoustic to psychedelic grunge to somewhat industrial. Thematically they explore emotions dealing with loss, separation, anxiety, depression, addiction, death, love and existential pseudo-science. You know, really happy go lucky feel good stuff that makes you want to kiss babies and hug your cat. We do love cats. Also robots. Also changing writing perspectives at the end of paragraphs. Oh Clay doesn't like cats. Don't trust him.
