"I rely on music and soundscape heavily when it comes to health in any form. I have tried on a few occasions to make a purely ambient, soft, slow burn of a mix but my energy always seeks to go faster, darker, beyond - the drums always creep in to ramp it up. this mix was no different, but I was able to slow down considerably and let myself and the story breathe. as a dj we are always competing with our own energy, to be a conduit and receiver, a carrier of the vibe. the less we calibrate and test that muscle, in playing and selecting, staying present - we’re still receiving all the energy, but it may be too much to balance, we’re less able to let it all flow. I suppose this is true of any practice and the foundation. movement and stagnation, slow or fast, life is only death in motion. music and dance is expression beyond an individual, we fuse with it and learn to flow.

I often lost sight of the current, its held up in certain areas and throws off my rhythm. once I start moving, I find the ever changing tempo and don’t have to overcompensate in any area to stay locked. left brain/turntable, right brain/turntable, the mind/mixer. we become disoriented as individuals as well as a global consciousness - out of sync with the rest of the orchestra. the scale of the planets reflects the activities on earth and so on. every polarity there is a dissonance and a resonance that will restore it, the two are inseparable. I tend to invest & rely more on sound than anyone or thing. it resonates so deep in me, ignites lifetimes, infernos of joy, sadness, war, love. waves of pure childlike excitement. As I laid these tracks out and began weaving them around and through each other I felt my body slow down and relax.

like any playlist I’d catalogued a few of the tracks to fit into the story, but others just found their way in with little intrusion. If time is flat circle, I felt a pull toward the center of that circle to a space Ive learned to access through music. A place that’s calm, reflective, Buddha like. I hope these sounds can offer restoration and calibration like they do for me. more to come ~"

Unconcerned with genres and dedicated to storytelling via unusual grooves, her sets weave through assorted shades and eras of house, techno, experimental, and breakbeat, often held together by a thick bassline and/or generous helping of machine funk.

Current projects and affiliations include music for bathtubs, a mix series inviting guests to explore the dustier, downtempo corners of their collections; and 1/3 of Proper, a Winnipeg-based event series showcasing local and regional artists (with @djshael & @markgrimace).

Although rhythmic and dance floor worthy, this track’s primary form takes on the immersion of a Transcendental Meditation. With a driving mantra present throughout, it works through different pockets of your mind; surfacing, making sense of and setting free buried thoughts, while always returning to the propulsive sedation of this motif.

Since debuting modestly in 2014 under the alias Kaboko, Lazy Pluto has juggled a diverse array of inspirations, including early-’80s funk and electro, art rock, raw and classicist house, and Dubstep, while putting a fresh spin on the forms to decayed, disorienting effect.
