Oroboro alias Emanuele Rossi is an Italian-born and based theatre sound designer as well as an aspiring producer. After sharing his debut EP "Wild Mutation", sophomore EP "A Clockwork Existence" via TAR, and making a cameo on Air Max 97's label DECISIONS with an EP "Harkonnen", this time Rossi's sonic focus has allowed him to return to his homeland this time around. Throughout his new work, he aspires to cautiously absorb as well as proudly embrace the attitude and the sonics of punk-slash-hardcore scenes, which are vividly present in his hometown of Cesena. As our anniversary #020, we at Gin&Platonic are excited to present Oroboro's latest project - a bestial chimera named "NOVOID".

Stitched out of often contradictory elements, the influences here are meticulously studied but also are undergoing quite a burdensome test. As is the tentious mini-album intertwined with misery and confusion, it might come out as a true ordeal for a fearsome listener. "NOVOID refers to the act of trying to stuff everything in every place, the sort of Horror Vacui I always had in making music but also to the horror vacui that pervades everybody’s life in one way or another", Rossi states. In contrast to the producer's rigorous research of insights of the local scene, the blueprint of NOVOID remains primitive and imperfect, chaotic even, but way far from just a strange compound of different and established musical norms. Creeping out from the shade of Cesena, NOVOID is an affectionate creation driven by both visceral anger and inconsolable sentiment.

Atlas, the label debut EP by Foxconn Suicide, is a dense ocean of dilated, murky industrial grooves, shimmering trance-derived arpeggios and sporadic noisy, deteriorating assaults.

In a swamp steeped in digital pitfalls, the duo's mechanical contortions turn a stern gaze to the mournful march of the industrial world and the cold rave nostalgia of centuries past, guiding us to the stake of an old and painful path, favoring under their breath an unknown and present torment.

Exploring the dangerous limits of the senses, the EP's five tracks accompany us on this violent immersion into the human ego, accepting the intimate and dark boundaries of self-processing and finally rebelling through an uneasy, neuromantic but necessary reaction.

*1 ARTHROPODS： Arthropods is the alienation form of GOLEM*, and there is a soul in each metamere. They can upload, download, and link to each other.

*2 GOLEM：A golem is mythical humanlike figure made from clay and magically able to move on its own. In the Bible, Golem is an unfinished human being, without a soul. Through the process of its own evolution and its makers' experiments, a Golem can contain or generate its own soul. It can appear in different interconnected forms and reproduce itself at will. A golem with a soul, in order to speed up its own evolution, will sometimes supersede or devour the original form of life. The album Golem is inspired from this source.

Arthropods

33EMYBW - Induce

Favouring a predominantly digital palette – one that won’t be, at least on the surface, unfamiliar to aficionados of ambient minimalism – ju ca details a collection of scenes, fragments and delicate murmurs, one passage floating into the next. But it is not as if these are static, middling affairs – upon closer listening, one may realise that these snapshots of softened glass, rubberised edges, and hanging reverberations cycle and pivot in ever-changing sequences.

Like a trick of the light, foreground shifts to the back; what was a whisper is revealed as an echo of an impassioned plea; and while it may be hard to tell where an element emerged from, or where it indeed it may go on the plane of the work, everything does in some way seem in its right place.   It’s not as if one is staring at or glimpsing some pastorale of Impressionism from a century ago – no, more appropriately one is to find oneself slipping into the work itself.

Perhaps it is more powerful, more evocative to figure oneself in the nondescript, the semi-abstract when the placement is so deliberate, so lovingly assured – and, specifically concerned with the physical dimension, “but only if one would let it".
