Oroboro alias Emanuele Rossi is an Italian-born and based theatre sound designer as well as an aspiring producer. After sharing his debut EP "Wild Mutation", sophomore EP "A Clockwork Existence" via TAR, and making a cameo on Air Max 97's label DECISIONS with an EP "Harkonnen", this time Rossi's sonic focus has allowed him to return to his homeland this time around. Throughout his new work, he aspires to cautiously absorb as well as proudly embrace the attitude and the sonics of punk-slash-hardcore scenes, which are vividly present in his hometown of Cesena. As our anniversary #020, we at Gin&Platonic are excited to present Oroboro's latest project - a bestial chimera named "NOVOID".

Stitched out of often contradictory elements, the influences here are meticulously studied but also are undergoing quite a burdensome test. As is the tentious mini-album intertwined with misery and confusion, it might come out as a true ordeal for a fearsome listener. "NOVOID refers to the act of trying to stuff everything in every place, the sort of Horror Vacui I always had in making music but also to the horror vacui that pervades everybody’s life in one way or another", Rossi states. In contrast to the producer's rigorous research of insights of the local scene, the blueprint of NOVOID remains primitive and imperfect, chaotic even, but way far from just a strange compound of different and established musical norms. Creeping out from the shade of Cesena, NOVOID is an affectionate creation driven by both visceral anger and inconsolable sentiment.

Hljóðfirring brings together and pulls apart three versions of home, in different places and times. Literally meaning ‘sound alienation’, or the way in which neighbouring sounds become less similar, Hljóðfirring shows a melody carried between homes. This melody resonates differently in each place: the noisy traffic in The Hague brings out different elements of the theme than the frantic birdsong in Eyrarbakki. The most vulnerable expression of the melody is brought out in Heima, stripped of all outside influence. Together, the three parts travel between homes and ask how much our homes travel with us. 

Kaðlín Ólafsdóttir is a composer based in The Hague. Her work reflects on deterioration by drawing parallels between the imperfections of memory and technology. Combining old cassettes with field recordings and live instruments she creates dreamy soundscapes sometimes inhabited by ghosts.

“I'm based in the unlivable Paris. I appreciate to curate sounds among several genres (techno/chicago house/ghettotech/ambient/experimental/hiphop/disco), in order to create more or less homogeneous aggregations. What an immense pleasure to be able to enjoy by hearing thanks to the amalgam of carefully selected sounds. Finally, what I prefer most of all is to have fun and to put my ideas in motion via various softwares.

I am very happy to deliver a special mix to the very unique ÖÖÖ label. Here is 1h of "ethereal techno" that I love so much. I usually listen to this kind of ambient music when I need to calm my inner boils. It's called "Monomyth" and I hope you'll enjoy again my hearing of the underworld. This is a tribute to the mythical Joseph Campbell. He was an amazing mythologist of the 20th century. He dedicated his life to finding the common denominator of all mythologies. According to him, there would be a universal structuring of the mythological narratives, that is a global hero with multiple faces. So, a common thread with multiple variations. Obviously, we can contest the deterministic aspect of his postulate and claim the uniqueness of human cultures, but we can find the universal in the human imagination and creativity. Indeed, many prehistoric cultures have simultaneously had similar creative ideas if we think for example of the petroglyphs. We could succinctly conclude that each human possesses the capacity of imagination and creation. All would depend on the weight of its context which would have more or less put it in sleep. “

Blush is an experience of feminine interiority. It evokes the life of a young girl through flashbacks, a vivid return of the repressed. Beginning with the void, its layers upon layers of free associating sounds weave an ethereal lullaby, punctuated with sharp, visceral bursts of dark memories and harsh epiphanies. It’s the girl’s attempt to pierce through the facade of adulthood.

Blush is surrender to euphoria, instant gratification, isolation and ambiguity- the compulsion to open yourself up to feelings new or distantly remembered, to memories of apocryphal events. Most importantly, Blush is somewhere else that you can go.

ava* is an artist based in Berlin, Germany.

Her initial involvement with music was through the use of her voice. In 2018, she released ‘Juice’, a vocal-driven experimental project, with Zach Tipitt on the Japanese label Dark Jinja.

Since then, her focus has shifted entirely to production. Although she’s only been producing for a year, she’s been collecting samples and field recordings for over five. The tracks on her new project, Blush, are assemblages of these sound memories, which she’s warped and obscured to create an aesthetic that’s both familiar and otherworldly.

As a producer, ava* creates environments that are loose and innocent, yet stark and haunting. Sounds float by and pierce through unpredictably, creating dense ambient atmospheres with pulses of drama. She hopes her music can inspire people to go “somewhere else,” whether it’s a made up place or somewhere they’ve been before.
