Diamond Version - Were You There (with Neil Tennant)

For this edition of the Nightshade series, Phase Fatale has created an aggressive industrial techno mix. This mix displays his various influences which range from EBM, Techno, and Industrial music. 

"Phase Fatale is a techno project of now Berlin-based young DJ and producer Hayden Payne from New York. Hayden has a unique background of playing with numerous cold wave and minimal synth bands including Automelodi and his own band Dream Affair and studying Music Technology at New York University. Phase Fatale is an artistic endeavor that’s born out of his various musical ventures over the past 7 years combined with his penchant for the darker, harder and industrial-leaning techno. Phase Fatale demolishes the border between music and noise to create a new progressive vision of techno – the sound of future war, whether it’s captured on vinyl or an extract of the digital static.

For live sets Phase Fatale uses exclusively hardware to achieve his distinguishable sound while his DJ sets features a unique blend of techno laced with EBM and synth gems. His 2014 debut EP Skyscraper on Italian label Avant! Records moves between noise-ridden soundscapes and minimal industrial techno rhythms, capturing the spirits of both EBM classics and modern contemporaries. His next releases are due out in early 2015 on Berlin-based label [Aufnahme + Wiedergabe] followed by Jealous God. Phase Fatale has played alongside acts such as Clock DVA and Cold Cave around the globe from Los Angeles to Moscow."

‘MY BROTHEL THE WIND’ IS SET FOR RELEASE ON 25TH JULY

DJ DIE SOON is the apocalyptic alter-ego Daisuke Imamura, whose performances of masked malice have been a fixture in the Berlin underground for the past decade. Announced today alongside its first single, upcoming record 'My Brothel The Wind' takes inspiration from Sun Ra at his most grotesque, conjuring a distorted phantasmagoria with an eclectic crew of compatriots like Rully Shabara, Sara Persico, and longtime collaborator Kiki Hitomi.

Out today, first single ‘Unfinished' is a pulsating chimera featuring animalistic vocals from Kiki Hitomi of Ninja Tune bass explorers King Midas Sound, with Italian MC Franco Franco’s verses snaking underneath the noisy onslaught:

'My Brothel The Wind' shows DJ DIE SOON as an alchemist of distortion, transmuting the club-forward beats of his 2020 debut Kappa Slap and the seething horrorscapes of DIEMAJIN, his 2022 collaboration with Tokyo vocalist MA. Imamura’s obsession with noise stems from his upbringing in Tokyo, where he grew up hearing the deafening roar of trains every day. “The buildings were really tall, so the sounds reflected so much and it was so loud that you couldn’t even have a conversation on the phone. Hearing this noise every minute when living in this flat, it became a normal thing,” he says. While most would content themselves with avoiding loudness, DJ DIE SOON seeks to unpack its visceral potential.

While Sun Ra’s intergalactic Moog reached for the stars, DJ DIE SOON plunges into the depths of hell. Rather than a vision of the future, 'My Brothel The Wind' is a laugh-cry of despair in the face of a Hadean present. DJ DIE SOON confronts the world with a new hand-made mask, reborn in the ashes. Film director Hiroo Tanaka’s visual contributions in the album art, poster, and music video complete the album’s narrative, telling a story not of villainy but of phantom caprice in a dying world.

Episode description:
This recording documents a collaborative exploration during an artistic residency of Shape+ Platform in Prague at MeetFactory. During the residency, Sofi (Sofia Zaiceva), Sorbitol Drops (Antonín Závodný) and Natálie Pleváková collaborated to develop an experimental sound performance, questioning how contemplative practices become commodified experiences to be consumed efficiently rather than embodied processes to be lived fully. We explored the juxtaposition between authentic musical experience and its digital packaging.
We built our concept around observing how streaming platforms reduce music to absurdly grotesque algorithmic categories. Taking this phenomenon to its logical extreme, we created our own playlist categories that reflect the reductive nature of digital music curation - "lowkey wild ambient," "lo-fi girl," "coastal heavy hitters," "comfort zone anthem," "mainstage confidence." We wanted to find out how we could adapt our sounds to these absurd "genre" categories, which mostly refer to certain aesthetics, moods or situations, playing around with humorous "wannabe" sonic representations of various weird music styles.
Drawing inspiration from audio plays and guided listening experiences, we developed a conversational, improvisational structure that mirrored our back-and-forth interaction as performers. We discussed how it's still highly relevant to reflect on how we consume and perceive music, including our expectations for how music should sound or even look in its visual representation as part of its commodification.
We have used various computer music approaches - SuperCollider live coding, Ableton Live and BitWig, Instagram input, voice manipulation, hardware processors in improvisational setting. Our performance felt like good conversation without limitations: super present and thoughtful, but also fun and responsive.

Venera shares ‘Tear’, the first single of the upcoming album ‘Exinfinite’ out via PAN on September 12th, 2025.

Having defined a multi-dimensional sonic universe on their acclaimed eponymous debut album, composer/filmmaker Chris Hunt and Korn’s James “Munky” Shaffer abandon the familiar and drift towards a kingdom of recursion on EXINFINITE, staring down a tangled mass of mirrored wormholes that hum with eldritch ambiguity.

On ‘Tear’, the duo’s new direction can be heard clearly as Shaffer’s primal guitar noises are reformed into eerie widescreen expositions that Hunt punctuates with pneumatic kick and snare cycles. Broken up by airlock hisses and luminous synths, the track proposes a backdrop that VENERA continuously transmute, reforging the concept as the album develops.

There’s something about Document One’s highly individual style which has resonated with DJs and ravers alike. Throughout 2016, their releases took up almost permanent residence at the top end of DnB download charts and in the sets of the most discerning selectors. They de ned their own sound, culling elements from multiple genres and weaving them into dancefloor mayhem. And, if this release is anything to go by, they’re going to do it all over again in 2017.

The ethereal horns and vocal sample in the intro set the scene, building an edge of tension. It’s got all of that smoky moodiness that Document One can deliver, combining tech darkness with a jazz sensibility. Delicate hints of percussion mark the way, and there’s still no hint as to whether we’re heading towards laid-back cool or road-hard savagery in the drop. It’s Document One, after all, and they can do either.
