hello!

once again, i love utada hikaru's music and this is no acception. this is a really beautiful song, unfortunately being shown to you with my dubious falsetto LOL. it was made for a movie that heavily deals with subjects of war and the harmful impact of the very human behavior of selfishness and greed even if fueled by love and some form of a good intention, and this song is similar but with less of a war tone. this song from what i understand is about letting someone you love go, because even if that person wants to be with you too, you can't let go of the guilt of feeling like someone else needs them more. it's very much a song about, "who's wish isn't being granted because MINE is," and as someone who has to sometimes deal with the unwarranted thought of feeling like your wants can be burdens to others, it's very relatable lol

i'm writing short descriptions for these just because there's a lot here haha, but hello

i really like this song, even though i'm not the best at singing in mandarin. still, i love singing songs that i love and so it's important to me to at least try a bit haha. when i recorded this i was in the process of making a transcription format for mandarin that made it easier for me to process what i was supposed to sing while actively singing, since certain letters used to transcribe mandarin in pinyin are used for different sounds contextually, so i simplified it a lot by just using diacritics to distinguish these sounds from each other.

i stumbled across a cover of a remix version of this song and i really liked it, and it's again one of those songs where even though i don't sing very well in mandarin, i wanted to try. i think compared to starwish, the pronunciation in this one may be worse, and the performance as well just because of how focused i was on pronunciation.

that being said, i think this at least showcases my real voice for the most part - my voice that is quite nasal and despite being a baritone isn't terribly chest heavy or deep or mature. it is a voice that was developed by growing up singing mostly female pop with my mom and trying to mimic their voices and learned from their singing styles, and continues to mostly sing songs originally sung by higher range vocalists, despite my biology giving me the lower voice i have. i'm in the process of trying to accept my voice for it's weird quirks and stop breaking traits down to "feminine" and "masculine" and just allow it to be the way it is.

i love tomoko kawase. i really wish she was still making music, but she had been in the music industry for a while so i think it makes sense if she's on a hiatus or even retirement. my introduction was papermoon in the soul eater opening, which, along with style by kana nishino (a soul eater ending) were my first two cd's i ever recieved from japan, and the first two japanese songs i learned how to sing!

i was really trying to make my voice sound cool in this and it just sounds unnatural, but i still like it haha

so i love this song a lot. i love hikaru utada's music. thus far i have her first album and greatest hits on cd through this box of used japanese cd's i bought (i haven't even gone through all the cd's so i might have more of hers). i have a mini cd single of hers, and recently i bought deep river and ultra blue on vinyl. i didn't initially like first love, but it grew on me, and ms. ooja did a cover of the song that i really like, and i prefer the backing track just because it reminds me so much of the music i used to sing with my mom lol

at the time i was happy with this, but looking back im not happy with the falsetto. my falsetto isn't the strongest and sounds it's best on a really good. i mainly use it for the squeaks and yodels haha

a specific part of this song didn't age well, and parts of the show too. that being said, i LOVED this show. i remember binging it in high school at night on my phone just because i loved it so much. it's absolutely the most unusual anime i've ever watched in the sense of just how it doesn't really feel that much like an anime to me, especially since the english translation writers and va's put so much effort into making this anime interesting in the dubs as well, that i prefer it to the subs.

i recorded this when i was sick hence so much autotune, but i think it's a vibe, since this is one of my favorite clips i did. it is actually very difficult for me to like my voice, since, with the specific presentation that i would like to see and hear in my reflection being different, it gives me a bit of dysphoria. but, because i know it won't really change, i'm trying to learn to accept my voice as it is, especially since singing is definitely a coping mechanism of mine haha

the way i recorded this was actually inspiration for the mousou zei cover with teto i was doing, which was almost done until my computer's boot file corrupted on me and i wasn't able to use my computer for a long while. there's a lot of things that were almost done until that happened, and i started working on things on my laptop but with difficulty. but since my skills in various things improved, its hard to go back to those older projects since it makes me just want to redo them again haha

this is another one of my more favorite clips! it inspired me to cover the song with unity chan, but i only got so far because i gave up. i like the results i can create with vocaloid, but the ease of use for pitch tuning in synthv has just spoiled. i was really hoping v6 would have dpt, but it didn't which was unfortunate. 

i messed up the rhythm of the lyrics in the chorus but omg it's so hard to get that part right
