Experimental sound artist KMRU(@kamarujoseph)is a master of quietness. His music is as much about empty space as it is the delicate field recordings that fill it in. The Kenyan artist has been perfecting this balancing act from his base in Berlin, most notably on 2020 full-length Peel. It's a record of slowly unfolding synth beauty and drawn-out drone mindfulness. Soft focus chords bleed and blend into one another like different shades of watercolour paint and the environmental nature of the sound sources lends it a gorgeously natural atmosphere.
For this week's most meditative mix, KMRU puts together an hour of soothing sound in a painterly fashion. It is unhurried but always going somewhere thanks to a gentle underlapping rhythm, expansive synth arc or little hiss of static. What sounds like distant vocal calls drift in and out of the mix which at times is like a recording from the furthest recess of the cosmos, at others the pleasant ambiance you might hear out of a Berlin window on a sunny afternoon.

This set is designed to start playing exactly 72 minutes before sunrise for a more enjoyable experience.

At the outdoor raves they host, the sunrise holds profound significance, becoming something akin to a ritual. The passage of time awakens an awareness of the soul, and the sunrise offers the most direct way to experience it. In the darkness of night, this sense of spirituality is often absent, but the sunrise reawakens it, calling it back into the empty body. This set is crafted to support that experience, and they themselves have been profoundly touched by it many times. This is the essence of みんなのきもち Minna-no-kimochi.

Evangelists of Eastern Non-corporeal Trance sent from the land of the rising sun. Founded in Tokyo in 2021 as a rave crew, this sect has experimental roots in ambient music and deconstructed club music that has emerged across Asia in recent years. Building on these roots, they deconstruct corporeal club music through their unique interpretation, striving to achieve spiritual elevation. They hold raves irregularly at coastal areas, ruins, and warehouses around Tokyo. They also operate an independent, private network on a certain chat app for community-based activities. As a DJ unit, they actively tour worldwide, performing in Asia and Europe. Their label project, "Mizuha 罔象 (@mizuha-cc)" focuses exclusively on the spiritual aspect, gathering innovative works from around the world.

Founder of the label and event series Small Steps and resident at Kiosk Radio, she has become a prominent force in Belgium’s electronic music landscape. Her sets have resonated across belgium festivals like Horst, La Nature, Klub Dramatik, and Doel, as well as international institutions including Panorama Bar, Tresor, and FOLD.

In the mix Lola brings a selection as warm and delightful as it is chuggy and heady. Floating between lush basslines and hazy dub washes, it’s a journey suited equally to frosty forest walks or a cozy home stereo session. The gentle and careful pacing invites you to sink deeper into its mystical atmosphere, and by the end, you feel both grounded and gently lifted.
