ARMADA SOUNDS is the given name to a series of compilations presented by the booking agency and record label BLDSMX. This series was founded in early 2020, with the purpose of interacting with artists who are within the international underground music scene, which are joined by a deep and universal web of soundscapes and connections. This project is a product generated through effort and dedication to the bass music scene, and the avant-garde electronic sounds in the constantly evolving and hybridizing rhythms of 140-170 BPMs such as Juke/Footwork, Dubstep, D&B, Jungle, Halftime, and more

This project was born from the thirst of creators, DJs and producers Alan Flores ‘Vinil Motion’, Pil ‘Deeplinkin’, and most recent addition to the crew Felipe Jardel ‘Aiokai’, with the devotion and passion for low frequencies, repetitive drums, half times and the energetic rhythms mentioned. This great collaboration within the BLDSMX team has, as a purpose, connecting with the inmost parts of listeners and producers alike, to make this deep and universal web as tangible as possible

Groves - Bubblegum

Rising up from the murky depths with a bassweight pressure that proves dubstep isn’t dead, Alan Johnson manifest in the form of four mutant species on Sneaker Social Club.

Tom Neilan and Gareth Kirby have been knocking around for a hot minute, slipping out some crisp steppy variations on the on-point Mindset label circa 2012, while as Alan Johnson they first joined forces for a 12” on Blank Mind the year after. Their appearances have been scattered since, but the work in the lab has continued apace, as was keenly demonstrated on a four-track drop for the Art-E-Fax label in 2020 – something of a sleeper hit for those with their ear in the bassbins.

On their first step out for Sneaker, Neilan and Kirby make a bold opening statement with ‘Stillness’. Reaching for an eternal poem by Count Ossie as a guiding voice, we’re thrown into a hall of mirrors where the dead space is as potent as the looming bass. Picking their stripped down sound kit wisely, Alan Johnson craft a minimal sound wrecker of seismic magnitude. Get this on a rig and all your questions will be answered.

Elsewhere, we’re treated to the seasick synth shanty ‘Compactor’, a dance stopper with audacity hardwired into its composition. The swerves come thick and fast, but executed with an understated poise. Over on the B, ‘Pleasure Principle’ hits with a freakish impact, all bruising pressure cross-contaminated with analogue mangling. ‘Duppy Sea’ completes the set with another surprise swerve towards a Johnson twist on dubwise abstraction. At this point it’s clear the pair have a sound – gritty, roughed up but still crystal clear in its execution, and they can turn it to a lot of different disciplines. In the current landscape of musical culture, we have seen an immense movement of new forms of sound and frenzied approach to the hybridization of music. 
A-0 epitomizes this form of creation, drawing from the traditions of dub, noise, techno, and bass to create a Frankenstein of genre-less sound system artillery. Throwing predictable musical traditions aside, A-0’s music is projected forward by hisses, pops, percussion, and ever-mutating low end. The sounds of liquefied pianos, mangled synthesizers, and broken drumbeats rise, releasing into a pool of low end and ambience, where melody is joined by harmony to create a blend of venerable rhythms and dystopian noise

Worst Behavior's third compilation explores hybrid bass mutations from chilled downtempo to peak rave. The compilation features a blend of Worst Behavior alumni like A.Fruit, A-0, Jon1st, Bell Curve, and Samurai Breaks, and new artists including DJ Swisha, Yazzus, and Stranjah.

A portion of profits from the release are going to Eden Reforestation, which plants trees in deforested countries, and G.L.I.T.S., a Black-trans founded organization that supports trans sexworkers and advocates politically for trans people.
