Having enjoyed the honour of launching the label last summer with the highly acclaimed ‘Firethorn’ and ‘Pandorum’, Frankee’s doubled his dynamite with no less than four dancefloor-focussed slices of absolute bass gold.
Showcasing his creative range with depth and clarity, every element on this EP is coated in a robust sense of timeless drum & bass magic and melody: Nodding at the scene’s rich past, while pushing us as far into the future as possible, each cut will quickly find its way to the very top of your playlist.
We launch with ‘Harlequin’, a purring roller that’s devilishly simple but demonically effective. A groaning bassline and tubular subs vie for your attention as the steppy riddim drills the message home with such razor-sharp punctuation, each additional percussive element that’s added as the track develops causes major chaos.
Next-up ‘Paranormal’. An instant hair-raiser, the quintessential pitched down pianos conjure up 25 years of rave heritage in one simple reverberated strike. Then, before nostalgia kicks in too much, in fires a scorching bassline that grizzles and kicks its way through the mix with uncompromising menace. If you thought the low-end growls of Frankee’s previous release were stuff of legend, just wait until you hear this bass behemoth!
‘Saffron’ follows. Oozing low-end luxury and a swift, skippy riddim, it’s an instant groove massage laced with floating vocal textures and emotive, ethereal pads. An instant hypnotiser, it instantly flies your floor to places they didn’t even know existed. Paying respect to the expensive, aromatic delicacies of its namesake, ‘Saffron’ more than lives up to its name.
Finally we hit ‘Flintstone’. Concluding this epic tale with a wry grin, it’s the perfect balance of deep, dark rollage and subtle humour. The overwhelmingly warm sub squiggles, icy pads and textured percussive dynamics make this track a must for all record boxes!
Seldom does an EP come with such a fitting title…Not just a bold statement of dancefloor intent, each of these four cuts mark a quintessential turning point in Frankee’s promising career. From young hopeful to bona fide hot prospect, Frankee has firmed up a front row seat in D&B’s future.

Amoss step into lively territories with their 2014 return to Horizons Music. This single sees a VIP rework of their 2013 collaboration with MCJC, Bleed It, originally featured on the Dreamthief 4 LP. This rework brings a complete change in groove and mood to the table, incorporating a more syncopated beat with a much deeper bass presence. 
Calokan is a throwback to the duo’s early Horizons Music releases, but with an added twist. The dramatic and textural intro paired with an array of odd field recordings makes for an intense atmosphere whilst maintaining a heavy underlying sub laden roll. Those that are familiar with Amoss will know all too well that the second drop always has something special in store, in this case a straight, two step beat smashes through the breakdown, adding a huge switch up to the overall energy of this track.

We welcome SCAR back to Dispatch Recordings for their 2nd full release on the label – entitled “Call It What You Want EP” 

Following their March debut with the “Call To Arms EP” and their recent Dispatch Dubplate contribution, SCAR have made their intentions clear this year with a penchant for vivid atmospherics set against continuously grueling undertones.

Title track ‘Call It What You Want’ sets the EP off, possessing all the necessary elements for destruction across the release. Off-kilter technical assaults fuse together, whilst a radioactive low end pulsates the chest.  It’s a brutal work of art from this talented London pairing.

‘Dank’ emerges from simple beginnings; stripped-back, yet effortlessly murky, before progressing at just the right pace throughout; exploring new phases along the journey that collude and accumulate within the core to form a deadly final result. This track was titled ‘3 drops’ in it’s early, work in progress stages and it’s clear to see why upon listening.

Next up is ‘Twice Shy’, a track that has been championed and exclusively aired by DJ Hype on his Kiss FM show earlier in the year. Heading towards an impending doom, this track sets up a sense of emergency before the all important drop lands swift and in devastating fashion.

‘Zero One’ ties up the release in a reflective manner, altering and developing throughout. From lush ambient openings, to mechanical bleeps and amen flashes, the track shapes itself gradually and effortlessly. Its one that keeps you guessing on exactly which path the next switch might twist and turn the track down next.

Inner City Dance gladly welcomes upstate New York’s Jungle stalwart Hoogs to the label.  With an extensive DJ history in his home state as one of the main practitioners of the culture, Tom Hoogs brings his impeccable production pedigree to ICD for the first time.

With deep roots in the music, Hoogs sound is equally balanced between heritage and futurism, combining classic Drum & Bass templates with an innovative approach.  Both tracks on his debut encapsulate the smoked out feel of vintage Full Cycle with the bouncy playfulness of Dope Dragon. 

On “Puff Bomb” Hoogs shows his Studio Drum influence even further with layered breaks, familiar vocal snips and an elastic b line completed with classic Krust style squelches and effects. 

Whilst accurately aimed at the dancefloor, Hoogs sense of groove and percussive nuance push his music beyond simple rave fodder and signal him as name to watch for.
