Today, we've been blessed - and way more than usual. Critical Music have passed us an exclusive look at Enei's forthcoming <em>Goliath</em> EP on the label ahead of the label's return to Room One on Friday 9th May with this exclusive clip of the title track that also features the instantly recognisable tones of Manchester don, DRS. A beguiling blend of junglist drum work, booming basslines and futuristic vocal affectation its a pertinent sign of things to come from the label and from the Russian producer in question who'll be appearing with the crew in Room One a week on Friday. 

The full EP will be out at the end of May.

The medium is the message! Vinyl has always been our preferred medium for releasing music and without this tactile form of presentation, Samurai Music would not continue in its current form. Vinyl is the ultimate personification of what the label wishes to represent. Music always comes first, but the vinyl artefact is king for us.

Hyaku is the 100th Vinyl release on the Samurai Music label. Through the many twists and turns of the industry in our almost 17 years of existence, the Samurai Music vinyl releases have maintained their aspiration for quality, unique design that stands the test of time. Praise and thanks always to our long time designer Ryan Quinlivan and the many pressing plants we have worked with over the course of our labels lifespan.

Building on the promise of his standout Vacuum EP, Brendon Moeller returns to Samurai Music, bringing his expertly honed dub antics up to 170 BPM for a full-length, immersive journey. Renowned as a versatile artist, Moeller marries cavernous sound design with decades of machine soul, stretching across a spectrum of tempos and styles. His venture into D&B feels both intuitive and strikingly original—a seamless fit for Samurai, where sound palettes, tension, and rhythms constantly forge fresh, forward-thinking terrain in modern club music.

Known for his prolific output, Moeller presented Samurai with an extensive collection of tracks crafted in this latest phase of his production. The label carefully curated a sonic narrative, first manifested in June 2024 on the Vacuum EP, and now expanded with Further. For those attuned to the intricate, techno-infused evolution at 170 BPM, Moeller’s take is both logical and unique, standing out with a distinctive edge. His signature textures, meticulously unfolding arrangements, and monumental reverbs reveal an artist fully in command, threading each track together with hypnotic finesse.

Super excited to welcome Sentient with his powerful debut Blank Aperture, a five-track EP that masterfully blends bass music influences with grey area aesthetics. Through distorted yet juicy textures, razor-sharp rhythms, and deep, driving grooves, Sentient crafts a soundscape that is as dystopian as it is captivating.
The title track ‘Blank Aperture’ opens with gritty halftime grooves and meticulously crafted distortion, building an atmosphere thick with tension. ‘Repeater’ warps perceptions with its polymetric structures and rhythmical shifts, while ‘Void Treader’ explores stark minimalism, each element painstakingly placed. ‘Frayed End’, a collaboration with Kahter, shifts the energy to full-throttle bass music with smacking percussion and earth-shaking basslines.
Closing the release, ‘Spiral Realm’ plunges into abstract ambient territory, with metallic drones, stretched breaks, and heavy bass surges evoking a bleak, dystopian horizon.

Various experiments around drum and bass and beyond. With the whole 2024 being a year of narrative/storytelling releases from me, I still find myself branch out in multiple different directions when working with the drum and bass tempos and rhythms.

"The exploration-exploitation dilemma, also known as the explore-exploit tradeoff, is a fundamental concept in decision-making that arises in many domains. It is depicted as the balancing act between two opposing strategies. Exploitation involves choosing the best option based on current knowledge of the system (which may be incomplete or misleading), while exploration involves trying out new options that may lead to better outcomes in the future at the expense of an exploitation opportunity. Finding the optimal balance between these two strategies is a crucial challenge in many decision-making problems whose goal is to maximize long-term benefits."
