After dropping several tracks and performing at select festivals throughout the years, Ólafur Arnalds and Janus Rasmussen dedicated the year 2014 to explore the area in-between Ólafur’s more acoustic, piano-based solo work and Janus’s synth-heavy electro pop, with their collaborative electronic project Kiasmos.

By focusing solely on their self-titled debut album, Ólafur and Janus have been able to combine and further develop their unique sound aesthetics to complete an album driven by their mutual love for electronic music. Made in Ólafur’s newly build studio in Reykjavík, Iceland, a majority of the album was recorded using acoustic instruments next to a variety of synthesisers, drum machines and tape delays. It features a live drummer, string quartet and Ólafur performing on the grand piano, producing an ambient, textured sound, which makes it a perfect home listen and equally danceable record. If you listen closely, you can spot them record the thumb piano, finger snapping and even the sound of the metal grinder of a lighter slowly to replace the usual electronic hi-hat sounds, giving the album a far more intimate and unique atmosphere.

“We decided to start almost completely over with this record, so most of the material is written this year with the idea of making a record that can stand as one piece rather than a collection of songs. I am very excited to get a proper record out exploring a different territory than I am used to. I touch a lot on electronic genres in my own music but never have the opportunity to go full out electronic like we do here.” – Ólafur Arnalds

“The Kiasmos project has been around since 2007, but because of all our other projects we never really got the time to sit down and write all the tracks we always wanted to. So when we early this year finally found the time to sit down and make a full length album there was so much we wanted to try out. Returning to the full-length format after a couple of years well spent in the 12" singles circuit, Brazilian groove architect GUI BORATTO follows up his 2011 offering "III" (KOMPAKT 242 CD 90) with new masterpiece ABAPORU - an exotic and colorful journey into sound, spread over 13 richly orchestrated club tracks that display the same penchant for ridiculously catchy melodies and infectious rhythms that already informed his revered 2007 album debut CHROMOPHOBIA (KOMPAKT 152 CD 56).

In what may be his best work to date, GUI BORATTO strings together various contemporary strands of pop-infused techno and house and translates them into his very own stream of groove consciousness - also an act of cultural appropriation, as both ABAPORU's cover artwork and title suggest: putting an inspired twist on Brazil's most famous modernist painting "Abaporu" from early 20th century artist Tarsilo Do Amaral, they draw from the rich history of Brazilian modern art, where European and indigenous influences would collide in the most exciting manner.

Without holding his breath or glancing back, Steyoyoke's newest artist Aaryon steps forward and plunges himself straight into the deep end with his debut EP 'Fairy Tales'. Comprising of two originals, a remix from Ran Salman and two remixes from Animal Picnic, this release is sure to leave its mark.

The title track is a solid first release and a fine introduction of things to come from this artist. Possessing an exotic energy and hypnotic vibe, 'Fairy Tales' is driven by a strong momentum, that dominates and pushes you beneath a surface of beats. Deep bassline kicks and thrumming techno vibes are harmoniously laced with intense melodies that genuinely evoke a sense of fairy tale madness.

Ran Salman is next in line to flavour 'Fairy Tales' with his sound and puts forth an edgier, slightly darker version. The intensity is a little more progressive and a smidge dirtier, but it mirrors that exact same drive and momentum from the original. 

Track number three is the Club Edit from Spanish duo Animal Picnic, who are taking up remix duties with Steyoyoke for the first time. Their interpretation of 'Fairy Tales' seems to have more punch and attitude, which definitely boosts 'Fairy Tales' with an added sense of presence.

Their second remix brings soaring key changes, beautiful transitions and smooth basslines. Layers of deep percussion are infused with broody undertones, creating a beautiful platform of warm rich sounds. 

'Chlorine' is Aaryon's second track on the EP and it bares a harsher, sharper quality, then is heard on any of the other tracks on this release. Laden with sparse synth riffs and a bouncy techno jive, this track is both powerful and commanding. It is also another testament to support Aaryon’s talent and skill.

Fusing together the enigma of mythology and their love for music, Animal Picnic and Steyoyoke new comer Aaryon, join forces in creating their latest EP ‘Euphony’. The release consists of three original tracks, which all reflect the harmonious dynamics and creative symmetry that can occur when collaborations such as these are aligned. ’Euphony’ ignites your imagination and fills you with both fascination and nostalgia.
Presenting a concoction of daunting synth lines and beckoning vocals, is the EP’s first track ‘Kymera’. With its undulating basslines and consistent rhythmic flow, ‘Kymera’ is deceptive in its initial vibe of casual complacency. As the track progresses, psychedelic inflictions and atmospheric sweeteners are layered beautifully, to expose the tracks true virtues.

‘Hydra’ is track number two and it offers up a sovereignty of vitality and melodic elegance. It possess a plethora of hard hitting drum layers and delivers exhilarating crescendos that lift and guide you to a place of symphonic contentment. It also boasts some stunning piano sequences that are ornamental in illuminating ‘Hydra’s’ sense of mystification and charm.

The final track on ‘Euphony’ is titled ‘Madara’ and it also follows in the footsteps of the first two tracks and maintains a potency of audio surrealism. It penetrates you with a powerful bass heavy arrangement that is carried on a wave of persistent motion and drive. Couple this with stabbing synths and interludes of vocals that phase in and out during the entire track and you will be left with a lasting sentiment of esoteric bliss.

Adana Twins have been championing Hamburg's party spirit across the globe since their formation back in 2006. The duo are made up of Friso and Take It Easy, who despite the collective name aren't related at all, but their relationship with music is what keeps them united. It was their huge releases on Exploited 'Everyday' and 'Strange' that catapulted them into the spotlight in 2012. 
Since then they have loyally continued to churn out tunes on the imprint, gathering support from all across the board - with residencies at Exploited Labelnights at Watergate in Berlin and Villa Nova in Hamburg.

Our world of music came together in sadness following the passing of Linkin Park band member Chester Bennington, who tragically ended his own life. Immediately upon the conclusion of the first weekend of Tomorrowland, the news motivated Markus Schulz towards paying tribute in his own fashion, with an emotive and melancholic remix of the classic In the End, and would be presented through the most recent Global DJ Broadcast, and on Tomorrowland's second weekend outing. A beautiful moment shared with the audience in attendance and those around the world watching, Markus offers this remix available as a free download to everyone. 

Regarding the remix, Markus says:
 
"Linkin Park was a big influence towards my music early in my career. The news of Chester's death, and the manner of it, shook me; and I wanted to pay tribute in the only way I know how. The fourth compilation released by Heimlich Musik consists of 15 tracks showing the broadest range of all compilations so far. With the idea to represent the whole musical spectrum that Heimlich stands for, the label sticks to combining newcomers, old and new friends as well as well-established artists. Daniel Steinfels starts off an episode of trippy elements followed by tracks from artists such as Arutani and Hobta, just to name a few, who pick up this idea of spacy synth elements. The first psychedelic episode is followed by rather organic interpretations from artists such as Ulisses, Xique-Xique and many more that drive the compilation to South America and right back again without forgetting about the latest Disco-ish side of the Heimlich imprint featuring a track by the infamous Janefondas. Eight years of releasing organic, deep and spiritual music has been a unpredictable journey, with many unknown artists launching their musical career with Amselcom. Key to this success are the tracks hiding at the back of the catalogue, the tracks that are often closest to the artists’ and the label’s heart. 

This album not only celebrates the past 8 years, but also celebrates the bright and bold path we are continuing on into the future, with you, the listener, alongside us.
