Portuguese artist Delectatio is a new signing to Silk Sofa. His EP, "Sunrise", features four unique and unforgettable downtempo cuts.

"Numinous" starts with intriguing guitar riffs and enjoyable melodies on top. Soon, intricate percussion elements as well as hypnotizing vocal stems emerge, while the delightful theme melody continues to liven up the soundscape. A blissful guitar line and soothing percussion elements introduce "Be Free". Fascinating vocal stems are added later, thereby adding an extra layer of delicate and refreshing textures. "Remember" begins with a stunning atmosphere, including a number of lush synths and an intricate bassline. A mesmerizing arpeggio melody emerges later, and numerous sound effects continuously spice up the soundscape. The final song in this package is "Latibule". Beautiful melodies are quickly established, and multiple new layers are added on top, as the song progresses. The soothing breakbeat comforts the listener even further.

Not that long ago, one had to introduce Llewellyn as Martin Enke’s House- and Disco-bound sideshow to his main-moniker Lake People. That’s kinda obsolete these days, as Llewellyn has been cranking out enough high quality material over the last months to be on everybody’s radar anyway. 

“San Junipero” is already his second proper EP release on Riotvan in less than one year, not counting compilation tracks and remixes. It is the successor to his “The Other Side Of You” EP, the actual “Other Side” so to say, if not his prime moment so far. 

It kicks off with the title track, a straight hitting beat, clap on four, a little roughed up and grainy in sound. But with the introduction of its main synth, it turns into a dancefloor-tied, but widely spaced out Disco jam. Llewellyn credits Riotvan’s own New World, and particularly his track “Mirage” as an inspiration for the synths on “San Junipero”, so cheers to New World and the inner circle synergy! What is totally his own though is the signature ability to blend smooth and thoughtful arranging with an obsession on sound narratives and still a good quota of club functionality.

An approach that easily extends to all his productions, see also “The Light Above You” – an arpeggio driven tune featuring yearning harmonies, piano-highlights and a compelling overall 80ies vibe. 

“Remote Scope” introduces itself on a broken beat and a circling synthbass that gradually comes forward to be one of the main attractions of this rather groove emphasizing track. But still, its percussive patterns repeatedly give way to almost ethereal pad-arrangements placing you right into an emotive rollercoaster.

After all those profound DiscoHouse-leanings, one might expect the ultimate Euro-Disco-finale when led “In The Realms Of Fancy”. But no Fancy-tribute in here, but a beatless affair rich on field recordings and filtered synths, rounding this batch up on a laid back, yet classy note.

“San Junipero” will be out May 4th on vinyl and digitally and be distributed by Muting The Noise. Artwork by Niklas Sagebiel.

Rising out of Israel's electronic underground and making their microcastle debut are Kadosh & Nariz. The former sits as one of his country’s freshest and most highly touted artists. In relatively short order the Tel Aviv resident has found a home on Aeon, Innervisions, Watergate and his own Frau Blau imprint. Also a highly regarded DJ, Kadosh has programmed music for some of the world’s most forward thinking clubs, namely Watergate and The Block. Also calling Tel Aviv home is Nariz who is a regular at some of his country's trendiest venues such as The Block and Forum. Having recently partnered up with Kadosh, the duo released their first joint production c/o Stereo MC's Connected Frontline imprint. Beginning with the rolling beats, exotic drums and tonal creativities of the title cut, the Israeli duo aim squarely at a peak time dance floor. Spacious yet dramatic, it's a lesson in building tension through concise programming and a unique cross pollination of blueprints. Less has resulted in more on this one, with the sentiment that you don't need a sledgehammer to crack open an egg perhaps never being more apt. Operating on a transcendent level, the EP then shifts energy with the companion piece 'Deep Valley'. Once again possessing a dramatic undercurrent, it’s bulbous bass tones move through moments of emotional energy, while electric rhythms and striking overlays create a compelling canopy of sound. Hi there, this is the already third installment of the Familiar Faces anthology. For those who missed the first two: all the contributors to this fine selection of tunes are whether label residents who already provided their fair share to its backcatalogue or friends and affiliates, the Riotvan family hooked up with in one way or another (pun intended, by the way. Looking at you, New Hook). The connecting link being a certain like-mindedness in mentality and sonic expression, once again shaping this compilation up to the utmost current status update of what is going on in the Riotvan world.

And for a kick-off there's even some sort of premiere ushering things in with Reznik & Mikesh's opening tune Calumet. Both dudes are far from being strangers to the label, but teaming up and handing in this ferocious Acid stronghold of a tune, after they introduced themselves just recently with a Telepopmusik-remix, puts themself out there as a force to be reckoned with.     

Then there's Llewellyn, Riotvan mainstay and one of the focal artists when it comes to NeoDisco done the smart way. His new track Falling Apart definitely is no exception to the rule - delightful arpeggios, peculiar vocal-parts and one hell of a catchy synth-hook, engaging the time warp right back to the 80's.
It's no big secret that Jennifer Touch has a certain knack for that era, too. Her Hollow Flake gives us a foretaste of her debut album that will be out in April on Fat Cat Records and checks the listener in on another cruise through bleak emotive waters, building on a stomach punching beat and rough acidlines, graced by her sometimes distant, sometimes heartwarming chant.

Mexican friends Zombies In Miami have been playing on Riotvan nights already and now they leave their mark within the release records as well with Soleil, a soulful peaktime gem full of gloomy deepness.

Then there is the Zombie's compatriot Paulor with a hyper-organic sounding Letter To Futura that's shaped out of e-guitar and bass, Postpunk-emulating drums and percussion and an even Krautrock-reminiscing, trippy jam-aesthetic.

Speaking of Postpunk, closing things off are New Hook with their haunting and forceful O T - a cold sounding, yet fiercely intoned social criticism with unmistakable nods towards Malaria or Die Tödliche Doris, yet presented with an urgency that sets them apart from any formal retro-self-sufficiency.
