SO...It has been almost a year since I have thought about playing any music,
and have barely even visited SoundCloud in the interim.

Indeed, it has been that long since entertaining any diversions at all,
as I have been engaged with serious health issues concerning my son.
After a lengthy hospital stay with an aggressive infection,
resulting in pneumonia and requiring surgery,
he is finally to the point to where he is strong enough to stand
and take a few brief steps.

So, I have only recently allowed myself enough space to contemplate music
...at least for a brief spell, or so long as it can last.


Here are simply a random collection of instruments
and the suggestions they evoked for me upon hearing them.

Evening Meditation

Mirage - broken

This is another one of my early works from the time when I was just learning to use a DAW with GarageBand. Back then, my son was uploading gaming videos to YouTube, and he used my compositions as background music.
This track is actually not even fully finished, since the YouTube release didn’t require a very long piece of music. That’s why the song ends as if in the middle, and only the drums keep going.
All the instruments heard here are GarageBand instruments.

This is an homage to all the cultures that have contributed to my musical journey so far. It is also a bass solo sandwich. Most of the track is a soup of different loops I found on loopcloud. I take credit for the production and the playing of the double bass. The composition is original. All rights reserved. I have a license to use the loops in the composition.

The bass you are hearing is a Shen SB 80 Fully Laminate with 39.5" scale length. It's a 5/8 size. The strings are all Savarez Corelli Medium long scale. The G string is a nickel wound unlike the others which are steel. I recorded the bass with a RODE NT1 Signature Series condenser facing the center of the top approximately 2 feet from the bridge tip. The mic is fed into an SSL2 audio interface with the 4K emulation engaged. There is some subtle eq and a little reverb on the bass track. No compression or limiting on the bass track. There is light compression on the overall mix.

This is the 2nd collaboration with the very talented Nynke. It depicts how fleeting moments can be and that change is a fundamental truth in conciousness, physics and reality both perceived and actual.

DarkRinse is a raw techno piece built around a sub-bass crafted from a field recording of a washing machine. Its heavy mechanical rumble shaping the whole foundation.

I see a meaning in the limitation to minimalist sounds. My work blends elements of post-punk synthwave, EBM, minimal techno and trance, merging the divided aspects of our being into a cohesive, transcendent experience.
