Rinnovare is the project of BC artist Matteo Neufeld. Despite the challenges that came with 2020, he graced the year with many releases. Accompanied on strings by partner Chloe Davidson, and production engineering form Andrew Judah. The first being his modern-classical / dream pop EP titled Aperturia. The next was a double single release with label Ambientologist, from the Netherlands. Followed after that was Rinnovare's re - release of his long sought-after record Suspended Animation. This being an album that was traced around many countries, over the span of six years. It evolved into being a dense, rhythmic & reflective collection of modern-classical, post-rock and ambient hybrid. During the summer of 2020, Rinnovare began to write & record Held Under All, the upcoming record being released on Shimmering Moods Records, from Amsterdam. This is Rinnovare's most nuanced, minimalist, calming & seductive album to date. Featuring acclaimed artist collaborations such as Benoît Pioulard, Voga & Bedroom, a cohesive & sprawling display of wash, texture & beauty has been manifested here. Mixed by Slow Meadow, and mastered by Rafael Anton Irisarri, Rinnovare has continuously pursued crystal clear production aesthetic, contrasted with raw & organic atmosphere all over.

as a central point of reference of grischa lichtenberger‘s »la demeure/il y a péril en la demeure« complex, raster-noton releases a limited edition of three 12“ vinyl EPs that are accompanied by a handmade, signed and individualized screen print.

the three EPs were set up as an experiment. each of the records is guided by a word that could be described as a phantasmagoria, a delusion of the 20th century – like a metaphor that is concerned not only with its immediate meaning, but with an implication more emotional, more irrational, telling something about the mindset of the not so distant past.

these keywords already existed before the production on the tracks began and thus played the role of an indirect orientation or playground for association. nevertheless, the EPs are not conceptualized, but rather a collection of habits and strategies in relation to the titles.

common to all EPs of the triptych is the question of a connection between intimacy and the public sphere. aesthetically, the music presented on the EPs ranges from distressing and unaligned dancefloor-oriented tracks to tribal and politically charged drones to unsettling noise ballads. on »spielraum«, for example, hypnotizing music box melodies are combined with claustrophobic breakbeats. »allgegenwart«, on the other hand, presents mechanical rhythms and sawing pads, topped with high-pitched warning sounds. last but not least, the final EP »strahlung« features self-forgetful, gloomy and melancholy tracks backed by melodies that remind of a barrel organ turned upside down.

Here's my fourth installment of my cassette/audio collage series. As I've mentioned before, each tape recipient got a tarot card drawn for them for the theme of their collage. This one was for my treasured mentor and friend, Rich. The card I drew for her was the final card in the Tarot, the 21st arcana:  the World.  Oh yeah, and you get to hear me read from a book on this one lol

The World (or in Thoth decks, The Universe) is a complex yet deceptively simple symbol.  In mundane use it represents completion, wholeness.  But it's more than that.  The World/Universe is ruled by Saturn, the outermost and slowest of the traditional planets; balance; fertility; death; the letter Tau.  Without getting too wordy, essentially, what the World/Universe represents here is the unity of the beginning and the end - masculine and feminine essences, a combination which creates the final element, "quintessence".  The beginning and the end, and all that falls between these two guideposts.  The divine. The eternal.

Well anyway.  For this tape, I chose to try to represent this idea through the sounds of someone climbing a mountain - reaching the top, and looking out around them.  Their journey is over, and their journey just begins.  This one is mostly 4th world and Berlin style proggy stuff, cuz... yea!
