For this years spring´s edition of the Lab Experience podcast series Audio Werner (Hartchef, Perlon) took a deep dive into his record shelves and created a special seasonal blend of Vinyl only. This is definitely not a dedicated club mix rather than an audible illustration of springtime slowly taking over from cold and dark winter. Starting with atmospheric ambient sounds, warm rhodes & loose soundscapes the journey continues to more rhythmical environments as springtime progresses. If you expect the usual Audio Werner you know from his DJ sets or productions get ready for a completely new experience – it´s all broken beats and you won´t find any 4 to the floor bassdrum here at all. For this episode, we are delighted to present you an original mix created for us by that extraordinary producer known as El Búho. His ability to blend natural tones and traditional South American motifs with electronic beat grew along the past 9 years and is now renowned. The resulting music creates magical soundscapes, it feels like having a night walk in a forest, the air is filled with the buzz of the creatures swarming around, fireflies sparkle in the dark. Although El Búho’s acoustics are painted in vivid colours, this mix is inspired by Winter. It all begun on a cloudy day in one of those “hobbit-esque” villages in Northern England. You can imagine him sitting by the window, watching the clouds being pushed on by the wind, while the fire burns slow in the stove. There, the artist found inspiration and recorded many of the impressions that we can now listen to on this beautiful mix. The rain tapping on the ground, jackdaws cawing, crunchy leaves being caressed by the wind… Those organic sounds, so familiar and yet so ethereal, they free your mind and might let you fly to imaginary locations. They're able to evoke bygone memories or make us dream of new places to explore. From there, the mix develops along the Winter and welcomes the upcoming Spring. So now open your heart, feel this delicate sound touching it and unleash your imagination to let your mind travel to your own peaceful place.

For Franco, music is one of life’s vital necessities, granting him intimate access to higher states of consciousness. The sounds are deep and rich, underpinned by sprawling geographies and ancient narratives. Soft syncopations pulsate forward, as tinges of electronica seep into a landscape of organics and flora. 

Franco comes from a long lineage of family musicians, imbued with the sound of music since the beginning. Exploration of truly eclectic and divergent influences spanning krautrock, free jazz, psychedelia, experimental rock and many more, resulted in experimenting with various forms of music practices. His deeply spiritual relationship with music nurtures the worldly sounds emanating from his creativity, a balanced aesthetic that is guided by trust and the relinquishing of predetermined outcomes. The result is a space of dreamtime liminality and subtle ceremonial motifs.

On Thursday 2nd May, we rounded off the 3rd series of Alternate Cuts with a trip to Sheffield's Yellow Arch Studios where local crew Pretty Pretty Good joined us to host Tama Sumo. The Panorama Bar veteran treated us to an expertly delivered selection of some beloved broken beat bombs, transporting us from the steel city to mid-00s London. Listen as she unfurls soulful melodies and ruffneck rhythms.
